Great video. Love the northern accents as a former Minnesotan now living in Houston. My wife’s grandmother lived in rural south Texas and passed away recently. While walking near a shed on the land where her old house was at, I stumbled on a pre 1990s original PK! I yelled, HEY, THATS A PK! My in-laws and wife all said what is that? I said it’s an amazing charcoal grill that hasn’t changed much in over 70 years! This one was made in the USA but now they make them overseas. I cleaned it up, and to my delight my wife’s grandpa passed it on to me. I put it in a new cart, shined the anluminum up a bit, and it’s found a special spot amongst my kettle, kamado and offset. It definitely holds its own amongst all those other grills. Maybe I’m biased but I agree with you and Brian that the old original is better; I mean mine lasted years sitting outside in the south Texas elements! Anyways, happy grilling my friend, and thanks for the great content.

Great video. I agree. I went to Ace Hardware and was able to view the new and the old, side by side. I like the old better, because of the vent mechanism. I see the blocks over the bottom vents as an improvement, but not enough to get the new over the old. I apologize if I've asked this question before, but where did you get the wooden shelf for the old PK?

Hey Tom - I am in my late 50's. My dad had the PK when I was growing up. We loved it. Unfortunately, he gave it away when he downsized and I lived in an apt almost 40 yrs ago. I have a Weber kettle now for charcoal (among a few other bbq toys), but I still miss the Original PK and really wished I had gotten it over the Weber. Only real advantage with the Weber is the ash clean out.

I can only dream of finding an original PK one day. I've had Weber kettles, various smokers and everything under the sun throughout the years, but I recently went back to one the cheapest grills you can get because it was my first grill and after having everything else, I just realized that it was the most versatile. I call it the "poor man's PK", LOL.

I'm thinking about the new PK360 but not the price ... what's your thoughts Tom
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ17 күн бұрын
Thanks for Watching! Did they redesign it, online it looks the same. I’ve not used it or seen it, you’re correct that it is pricey. Are you planning on moving it around? Really small wheels

@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ The fireplace/ grill shop I bought my GMG pellet grill is carrying PK now and I was intrigued by the 360 until I saw the $800 plus price tag hanging from it ... yes the small wheels were kind of a turn off

Tom, you’re killing me. I have a PK TX that I have to sell. I absolutely love my PK but the RV park we winter in in Arizona does not allow open fires including charcoal. We live in the RV so I have room for just one grill. I am getting a Z Grills Cruiser any day now. I think I’ll be able to sell the PK pretty easily. 😭

Hey Tom, can I pick your brain about something thinking about purchasing a PK and was wondering if the seal between the top and the bottom is good enough or do you think it needs a seal to stop leakage. I’ve never seen one operated in person. I know you cook on it and I don’t notice a a seal with yours. Also, I’m going to be replacing my Oklahoma Joe pit barrel with this. The only reason why is space and convenience. What’s your opinion? Thanks a lot for being there and all your great videos.😀
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Mike! Big difference between OK Joe and the PK especially in size. I’ve had 3 PKs over the years and haven’t needed to do any additional seals on the lid. It’s the perfect 225 cooker. Thanks again for watching!

I had an "original original" but sold it because it was just a bit too small. I will say it was one of the best indirect cookers I have ever owned. I bought it used so I didn't lose any money on it when I sold it, but probably should have kept it. I would prefer if the new ones were made in USA.

The biggest problem with the new original is it's not made in America, the original is cheaper than the new and still made in the factory in Arkansas, and yet they are trying to phase it out
