23:22 my entire life my parents refused to accept certain job offers, move houses, buy certain things, all because of the rapture. Their entire lives still revolve around that. They all “prophesy” at their churches 24/7 that Jesus is coming soon. My brother and I, and all of the other kids raised in that were TERRIFIED and it’s taken YEARS to distance ourselves from their core and basic thought constructs after him and I stopped going there. Got kicked out of our house too after we stopped because “their house is an extension of gods house, and he lives here too”
@Moriningland2 жыл бұрын
And even if you’re a a devout Christian, the rapture is for sure a false teaching. Why does it make sense that Christians in other places of the world are actually persecuted for their faith but the richest, fattest, most money loving, violent sect of Christianity just gets to escape persecution because they are special? It was a teaching popularized in the 1800s. When I was still a Christian, I was convinced that the rapture was basically false. Although there is a prophecy in revelation where it says 1/7th of the church is spared from the trials that come in the end days. I always thought that if there was a rapture, it was probably for third world Christian’s who have already suffered a lot of their faith and lived lives of poverty and desperation so they are saved from the trials of the end times. It’s spoken of as the church of Philadelphia in the prochecy of the seven churchs in revelation.

I was raised in a southern Christian home, not anything like this but I would say normal. I was heavily involved in leadership with my churches student ministry and was extremely active in it. I stopped going to church when the pandemic hit and i had also just gotten divorced and was feeling more alone than I ever have before. It made me start thinking about everything I’ve experienced and i started to see a lot of cracks in things I believed. Things in the Bible stopped making sense, what I read in the Bible didn’t line up with what I was experiencing in the world, and faith wasn’t helping me anymore, I’m fact I’d go as far to say it was hurting me. While I still believe in God, I’m forever turned off American churches of any kind and will probably never return. My years in the church were some of the happiest times of my life and I wish I could go back at times but looking back now all I see is how I was shamed, lied to, and manipulated emotionally. The hardest part that’s tough to get over is how I did those exact same things to the people I claimed to love

When I was in like 3rd grade, she told a story about the apolocalse on one such day. The lights were out. She was going on and on about lore about the day. Said a nun had seen this with a vision, where demons would knock on the door using family members voices. One shouldn't open thr door to them and only blessed candles would work... we had lost power and were using candles to see. She scared the shit out of me for a bit, lol.

I read the first couple books in the left behind series when I was in elementary school. Yes, the adult series, I literally read better than the average adult when I was in 2nd grade. I had the reading comprehension of a college student, but the life experience of a moderately sheltered child. Well, until about 13, every time somebody was late coming home, I was convinced the rapture happened. Mom stopped at the grocery store? Rapture. The best part is that the only reason I ever felt that way is because I just literally never believed in the whole Jesus thing. It was entirely indoctrination. I was worried that, because I didn't believe this thing, something bad would happen to me. Then I made some friends who weren't Christians and realized I wasn't the only person in the world who didn't buy it.

I am a Christian but I don’t engage with the religious (ritualistic/ occultist) aspects of the belief. Christianity also denounces these types of practices and also states that faith is bestowed and cannot be influenced or else it would be pointless. In my studies I was taught that these practices were implemented by the rabbi to empower themselves ironically similar to the fall of lucifer. Christianity should begin and end with christ. There’s no need to find god or spread his message, one day he will come to you or he won’t. If one intents to spread the message they should do so through their actions not words.

That’s so messed up that there are churches that guilt people over not having some emotional or profound experience when going to retreats or spending time in prayer I was heavily involved in youth group back in high school and most times never felt anything super emotional back then. Thankfully my church was open-minded to that and would say you don’t need to be speaking in tongues and passing out every time, and even going as far to say that those experiences shouldn’t be forced by anyone. I guess I was fortunate to have an overall positive experience that led me to stay in church, and I can see how a completely opposite experience can lead people away

The is the issue, too many churches become too focused on religion and push people away. I'm a Christian and these stories sound horrible but I know it can be true. I have had people pray for me and try to push me down. Listening to this doesn't make me question my beliefs, but makes me feel sorry for all the countless people who have to go through this.

I'm in the same boat. It's really sad to me that these guys had these experiences. I'm a Christian, and so much of the stuff the guys described would be considered a horrible abuse in my church - especially a lot of the stuff about trying to give prophecies and tongues and using that to demonize people. From my perspective, a lot of those things are taught by people who really don't understand what the Bible says. Being a believer is supposed to be about grace and humility rather than performing great works to gain attention from people. And it's ridiculous to me that someone would get mad at a kid for asking questions about the Bible. There are things in there that are hard to understand. There's also a lot in the Bible that is genuinely objectionable to people and Christians should know that. Jesus even teaches that a lot of the things he says will be a "stumbling block" to people and cause them to reject him. But it's sad to me when people claiming to be Christians become the "stumbling blocks" instead because they're using church as a way to control people, get praise and attention, get a big rich lifestyle, etc. Those are all against the actual teachings of Christ. He even taught about "wolves among sheep" - people who would distort his teachings for personal gain. I hope that if you are somebody out there who is curious about the Christian faith, you will look past those kind of people so that if you reject the Bible or what Jesus teaches, it's based on really rejecting what it says and not all of the fake things that people have made it out to be.

10:19 One answer is in the 1st book of Moses, Genesis. We are not slaves to our God. We were set free to see good and evil and do right and wrong. "You will be like god" and they decided to eat. And god did not kill them but let them go. Imo the beautiful answer in that is: Because we are free. God does not intervene in every micro situation, we are not in a paradise version of the matrix where nothing bad ever happens. And our lifes are full with suffering, thrill, tention, struggle, thrive, growth, prosperity, shock and trauma because of it. We are "young and wild and free", to say it with cringe modern language.

Idk the church or the things all those people are telling them. But as a Christian, I've been physically healed twice, onces from a hand injury, and the second from IBs. Speaking in tounges is supposed to be a private prayer laungued and not meant for public. The public use of tongues needs ether a translator, or it's literally a miracle where someone is speaking Russian, not knowing Russian. The slane in the spirit. I've also experienced that. No one tried to push me over, and I can tell you when it's the real deal no one has to push you over to fake it. I have a friend who wasn't a Christian convert to Christianity after it happened to him. The gift of faith is not something unbelievers get. So people saying you haven't been given the gift of faith seem to not understand what the gift is. Faith in the Bible literally means to be persuaded by the evidence, and the best word in English we have for that idea was faith. The real word is pistis.

The way modern priests and preachers practice is pretty much the opposite of what Jesus teaches. There’s a reason why priests from history are dressed in rags, Jesus was the son of god and he roamed around in rags, he taught his followers to give everything away and do like him. Modern priests are claiming to represent Jesus and do his will while living n villas and riding around in chariots. It’s not even a moral story. He’s a human sacrifice and scapegoat for the crimes of all mankind, that’s not moral, original sin isn’t moral, and a lot of what Jesus teaches is why the middle age was so dark. You have no thought for tomorrow, loans are immoral and forbidden if interest is involved, put Jesus above all else and if your only son leaves the religion your to Jill him.. The only way this religion is moral in any sense is if you ignore the vast majority of it.

My church and Family were great and very grounded in the holy bible and that's whats important. Find a good community, a good church, school, etc.. for your children. The alternative would be to let the state form and mold your children, which, historically has a way worse outcome. I feel Joshuas struggle, because hi sexperiences are clearly really bad and i'm sorry for him. What his church did to him is very far from the Bible and the teachings of Christ.
