As someone who operates with the pkm on the training fields, the recoil is really bad in the game. I’ve shot it in multiple positions, and a gun this heavy just doesnt give you that much recoil. I’ve shot it standing too, and I couldn’t even aim while doing it. Just hip fire is enough when you are storming up a hill. But it was designed to be shot from the prone position or from cover while using the bipods. I think the pmc while laying down is holding the stock where there is a specific grip that allows you to handle the recoil better. I could not see in the video what happens when he runs out of ammo. Because I could not see the use of the two-stage feed mechanism. When you run out of ammo, you have to hold the Charing handle and pull the trigger to let the receiver go back to its original front form so you can put the belt with the ammunition in the cartridge feeder. Also I found it interesting that the pmc while reloading did not do that either. So on the next shot it would not chamber.

My biggest pick on AK-12 is that they chose the inferior 2016 version instead of the more revised 2020 version with better irons, a new stock, new pistol grip etc. 2016 irons are unusable

The AVT-40 was a real gun: the Soviets needed more machine guns to provide automatic fire after Barbarossa as they had a shortage of machine guns, but wanted to do so without having to build new factories or create a whole new weapon, so they came up with a way to convert an SVT-40 to be select-fire instead as a stop-gap solution. In reality, the AVT didn’t remain in service for very long as the SVT’s barrels were not suited to rapid, sustained fire, and the firerate, limited magazine size and recoil made it impractical for its intended role.

@@nmeister007 So no. They had the AVT-36 which progressed into the SVT-38, and then the AVT-40 and SVT-40 respectively, all before Barbarossa in 1941. Actually SVT rifles stopped being produced after 1943 and AVT-40 rifles took its place with a lot of them having the full auto switch just taken off or never used by soldiers. So if there was a Soviet soldier in Berlin in 1945, the SVT they were carrying was most likely an AVT.

the SVT/AVS is a fairly controllable weapon, even in full auto. The lack of accuracy in automatic fire primarily comes from the concussion and flash from the muzzle brake. There's also no reason for the pkm to recoil as strongly as it does in the game. It is extremely popular for it's relatively low weight for a GPMG and controllable automatic fire.

I'm pretty sure the only reason the PKM/PKP recoil as heavily as they do in their current state is because they would be absolutely BUSTED to fight against otherwise. 7.62x54R hits hard both in real life and in game, so giving someone 100 rounds of it to unload in rapid succession whenever they see fit would be a nightmare for anyone else on the map if you could run and gun with it like a rifle. I'm sure that it will be much more manageable stationary once bipods are implemented, with it being in the role it was meant to serve anyway, but it having high recoil in a standing position makes sense for game balancing purposes.

I honestly don't know SOP when it comes handling Russian LMGs, but in my time in the US service, troops were able hipfire M240/M249s by holding on the carry handle. That said, good luck treating a +30 lbs machine gun like a lightweight carbine for hours at a time. Better on a bipod/tripod/mount in a stationary position like it's designed to be.

@@incompetencelogistics8924 My only problem is that it isn't like they are really hipfiring it like actually holding it down low from the hip, They are pushing up on the bottom of the carry handle with their arm, not supporting the weapons weight from above. It looks ridiculous. Can you imagine having your hand in a closed fist, pushing up on the carry handle supporting all that weight while holding the gun up near your chest? Even worse is that the weight is very unbalanced in that position which would make it even more awkward. From most videos you see of people doing that, they have their hand the other way around, keeping their palm flat and letting the weapon lay on that, rather than in this case where you are fighting to clench it tight to keep it in your fingers. This is also the game where one of the meta foregrips is the ridiculous 45 degree offset one, so I guess its not surprising to see the attention to what is natural/ergonomic not come across with these lmg's lol.

@@thebuster9106 None of the guns in tarkov have realistic recoil. They're all wildly overexaggerated and perform as if they don't have stocks and are twisting in your arms. While I've never used a PKM, it's significantly heavier loaded than an M240B so the recoil should be similarly controllable; in tarkov it's a near 30lb gun flying out of your fucking hands with every shot.

It seems to be a little extra especially when in the prone. What bothers me the most is the visual recoil, if a heavy gun is beating you around like that you need to gain some weight
