I used to work in an aluminum foundry that resembles this. Although we had boots, it was very similar. That guy knocking the moulding sand out of the casting wearing sandals was impressive, I know how hot that sand can be. Also, they might want to consider knocking more sand off of the casting before it gets anywhere near the lathe so the sand doesn't ruin the tools and the machine ways over time.

Something doesn't change, nevermind the country : the working man is on his smartphone while he's "driving" the molten metal bucket. You can be rich or poor, but as soon as you've got a smartphone, all is fine! Also, kudos for the "safety thongs", mandatory piece of equipment for the professional pakistani. Seriously, I admire their inventivity, but regret their working condition.

I also immediately thought "these poor poor men work with liquid metal in sandals". If even a splash of the liquid metal gets on their feet. As a doctor I can only say "farewell dear foot, it was nice as long as I owned you". Of course, I also know that it is easy for a European to talk about safety shoes if you don't have the money to buy them.

Nobody MAKES them work there, they choose to work there. Just like any other country in the world there is a choice of jobs to do. They are all dirty and they are all dangerous. I've seen these videos with other workers wearing jeans, t shirts, work shoes, gloves, helmets, goggles, welding helmets etc. right alongside of others that have none of those things. They dress and work that way because they want to. They don't get hurt because they aren't sissies, they are masculine macho men. They don't get hurt for the same reason monkeys don't fall out of trees and birds don't accidentally fall out of the sky. Do you think bikers in Ohio don't wear helmets because they don't have helmets in Ohio and someone or circumstances make them ride helmetless?

So much of this foundry practice is really quite good. Don't bother weighing the scrap going in lads, nor calculating how much limestone you'll need. Yet at the end of the day the molten metal runs okay, and the slag comes out the way it should. The safety aspect is appalling though. Best just leave it at that, otherwise I could be writing a long report.

These places are just filled with garbage. Why can't these people clean up their messes after they're done working? There is trash everywhere. How can management not crack down on employees like this? There are a lot of areas that can injure their employee's. They'll start feeling it in the wallet as production levels start dropping because some of their best employees are out with injuries suffered at work.

Good question, I found this from various sites. In Pakistan, working conditions are less than favorable. There are no laws to protect employees from working shifts longer than eight hours without overtime pay, employees do not get social security, cannot create unions, and have no statutory right to weekly leave. Pakistan has reported in the past that over 3 million of its citizens are living under what can be considered conditions of modern slavery, and there are also over 2 million children working as child laborers. To make matters even worse, a number of regions have completely dissolved any practice of labor inspections. This lack of regulation has made employees vulnerable to the many issues stemming from the fact they have little to no protection as workers. I think the owners were filming this as well. On paper it looks like this: The constitution of Pakistan labour laws. Following are the articles of labour laws in society. Article 11 of the Constitution prohibits all forms of slavery, forced labour, and child labour. Article 17 highlights the right to exercise the freedom of association and the right to form unions. Article 18 talks about the right of its citizens to enter upon any lawful profession or occupation and to conduct any lawful trade or business. Article 25 is about equality before the law and the prohibition of discrimination on the grounds of sex alone. Article 37(e) makes provision for securing just and humane conditions of work, ensuring that children and women are not employed in vocations unsuited to their age or sex, and for maternity benefits for women in employment. Also, on employee rights: To keep oneself safe from the exercise of power, victimization, or unfair labour practices, the Labour Courts have been given powers to examine and intervene to find out whether there has been a violation of the principles of natural justice and whether any action by the employer was bonafide or unjust. So, there are laws but rarely enforced. Also the concrete industry is huge in PK and the government looks the other way to keep them happy.
