Really really useful to see how to do the corrections demonstrations. And the tips about the steps/board. And not calling from a sit. So much really useful helpful stuff all in one little video! Thank you ! My little cocker has got so much better and calmer since I've been following Mordor .. and so have I as a trainer!! 😍🐶💚💚

For anyone reading this: I know that dog training can be difficult sometimes, but you're doing great. Keep up the good work, and your dog (and your own sanity) will thank you for it! ❤️💕

Thank you so much. I am training my first cocker. We attend a hunting dog class with munsterlanders, pointers, and labs. My cocker has them all matched with the level of excitement. Sit and stay has been a CHALLENGE, I starting using a board, and he can stay for hours.

Really good point about going back to them when they are in a sit. Not something I'd thought about before but it makes sense.

This is SO helpful; Waffle and Mash were the same as the very pup I have to teach, so now I have a reference! WE as humans need the disciplines to train as much as the dogs need the training.

Great vid.We have had dogs for 40yrs,and we find,there is always something to learn with training.In fact our last two have been Springers,with totally different personalities,so different methods of training using the same basics were needed.

Labbies are great TBF. I've never known a breed so easy to train. They can get into mischief though, as pups they're often known for trying to eat the universe.

Absolutely love this video and the common sense approach. I don't have my pup yet as he is only 3 weeks old but I'm going to try and follow your guidance.

excellent as you are only using the sit command instead of sit and then a stay command as many use Sit is Sit Down is Down etc
@davidcudlip658710 ай бұрын
Very enlightening. I agree. It does not make sense to call your dog to you for praise after being commanded to "Place". It only confuses the pup.

amazing "if i let go of the lead, Waffle doesn't know what to do, he doesnt sit" ... then watch the immediate reaction of this dog once the lead is picked up. immediately that young Waffle was like 'oh, behaved, damn, forgot about that. sit. sure, i can that' so simple, amazing video

Do you use place boards Haven't trained a dog in about 12 years, they seem to be the " in thing " at the minute.

I don't work my dogs or have any interest in that but i absolutely love the dog training aspect of it. This has been very informative and definitely highlighted something i've been doing wrong - Calling them to you = guilty. Thanks so much, as silly as it sounds thats like a lightbulb moment. Gues what were trying tomorrow

Loving all the info I've been absorbing since discovering your channel. I haven't made it through everything yet, so please forgive the ignorance of something you may have already covered.. but I wonder about your techniques on training recall. Having a good "sit and stay" and going TO the dog to praise so he doesn't think he needs to come to you after staying makes great sense, but what about when you DO want him to come to you? Is it just the order in which you train? Do sit and stay until he gets a good handle on that, then move on to recalling? Or is that kind bundled in with the retrieve play, telling him to come when he's bringing his toy back to you already, so he gets the subconscious command ingrained to come back to you when you call for it?

Hi. We have a 6 month old cocker and he will sit but not stay. His recall is really good and he comes back as soon as i whistle. Now i think ive done totally the wrong thing!

Sorry Charlie, another question I have is when our male dog Scruffy died, Sasha obviously missed him, but the more we walked as I was in isolation because of cancer treatment that is all good now..but I guess I became the Alfa male to replace our male dog, the only thing is she hates meeting other dogs, big or small, she hides behind my legs, I guess my male dog was her protector.. Not sure how to get her to Interact with other dogs..she is a fantastic dog, but would love her to interact with other dogs, am I right in thinking this? Regards Tim Chapman

Hi, please tell me which dog doesn’t look like a happy dog? The first dog is chino the black lab, the second one is waffle the gold cocker pup, and the last one is mash the red cocker. We pride ourselves on our happy confident dogs, they are all waggy and engaged. But would love to hear what you have to say. Thanks
