What destroyed Malta is total greed by developers and most probably some politicians that allowed such beautiful historical buildings and homes to be completely demolished. I lived in Malta and also in Sliema as a kid before leaving for Australia in 1997. I went to school at St. Patricks Salesian's of St John Bosco and Sliema was an absolute treasure. All in the name of progress so they say :( I will always love Malta and the beautiful Maltese people as we are, however, greed has overtaken our beautiful island. God Bless

Nothing shakes my soul like old archetcture, the craftsmanship is breath taking, new buildings in my humble opinion are very sterile, no soul whatsoever. Greed eats everything alive, sadly. Glory of Malta like my home Italy we have a love hate relationship but we always come back to our tradition.. ❤

A fabulous video, Alex, with the added bonus of your visit to the Colombian coffee house, such a lovely place and charming people. I love seeing how many of the traditional houses have been restored, and they look great with the bougainvillea plants. Years ago our neighbour went to Malta and when he returned I asked what he thought about it. Too many unfinished breeze block buildings, he said. I understood later what he meant, the limestone. 😂

I went in Malta in 2019 and it was amazing: there is more than 365 churchs and cathedrals, I am not a believer but the architecture is top notch. The older capital is a great place to see to watch what it was back then. The sea waters are of a special blue. I met many girls during boat excursion to small island and moving by bus to marsaxlokk. Gozo is also amazing and less altered than Malta. And I met a chameleon moving by walk on the agricultural side of the island. I met many maltese artisans who still work the traditional ways: hair dresser, tailor, jeweler, stone cutter and all were both nice, friendly and skilled. There is a lot of noise is some parts but it's because people comes in mass for work (accentuated by immigration due to high quality of life) and there was not a bike culture which I see is completely possible due to short distances. The traditional way of building will come back: it's more complicated to find the skills and the people who want to work this way but the building quality is better both for view and living: stone are a better heat isolant, and the older geometric plans have specifics ratio bringing better vibe: they knew the secret of golden ratio back then.

Thanks for your videos about Malta. You asked us for some hints of where should you make videos of interesting villages or cities with the old characteristics of Malta. So without any doubt I will suggest Vittoriosa. That is where the Knights of St. JOHN settled when they came to Malta. They even made Vittoriosa the first capital city of Malta. You can see the museums!, the old houses in the narrow streets of the city!, the churches, the marina with all the yachts and also the many restaurants and cafeterias in this beautiful and historical city. So hopefully I will see you in Vittoriosa soon.

Hi Alex, after being in Malta and staying in an older part Sliema, i’ve come to appreciate what once was… i stayed in a modern apt but on a street off of Triq Manuel Dimech . I’m disappointed that people can’t see what’s happening to old architecture and how the newer modern buildings are taking that away. If the building construction kept the old design on the outside and adapted current interior design, then Malta’s historical characters would be maintained…there were new construction that were doing just that and i was so happy to see that, despite the early morning noise of the electric ladder bringing tiles up to the second and third floors! That’s the Malta that should be preserved or it will forever be lost …😩🇲🇹
@georgejobe9612 жыл бұрын
(Isobel Jobe) Thank you for such a professional and well made video. We love Sliema and always rent an apartment there. Like you, we always explore all the backstreets to find the more traditional houses. My mothers was Maltese and came from Senglea, what a quiet place that is! They should celebrate all the old houses and try to keep everything as it was. They have such wonderful old floor tiles inside these houses. I also enjoyed your visit to the Colombian coffee house, everything looked delicious, and nice to know that they used their wonderful coffee beans from their own plantation. Have you ever explored the military hospital in Imtarfa? My father was a medic there during the last war, and met my mother there, tending to her foot. It’s a marvellous building, and must have many stories about it. Such a shame that it is nearly derelict now. I can’t understand how a building of such importance has been left so uncared for. Anyway, loved this video, please make more similar.

Your video’s are excellent! With regard to the garbage, most of it comes from the student’s that come to Malta to learn English. The rest is from tourists and some young Maltese. Some streets in Sliema for total traditional houses, are Triq St Rita and San Pius V, both can be reached directly from the promenade. I’m an American expat and have a flat in Sliema with my Maltese wife and have been coming here for over 13 years. In the 13 years that I have been coming, the changes have been unbelievable. And definitely not for the good of the country! However, I love the country and also love living here! Hopefully I’ll see you one day filming! Keep up the excellent videos!

hi Mark, i agree with you, and i will held some construction workers accountable for littering, i saw it myself and got in argument with some! Malta is lovely with its all rubbish around :)
@emmanuelpoirier46022 жыл бұрын
That's interesting to find those who litter the place: the government should tell those people to not throw away their junk and instead use trashcan. Now that we know and we see it's part from food they can put it is special bin to make compost and feed the plants. Also educating consumers to not eat junk and instead eat great food aka organic or wild fruits and vegs will prevent junk to stay where it is for long (only plastic takes centuries to degrade).

A good try on the intro and my 20 pence worth opinion: it gives cinematic feel and disconnects you and your viewer. Even people on TV News try to break the ice and avoid this "screen distancing". People love your vlog, and me too, for the feel of being connected with you even watching you from North Pole 🤗 The best intro is no intro, you are already good enough to have no intro 🔥 Buildings, houses and constructions. I see Malta as a new NY and Sliema is a new Manhattan. That "skyscraper" soon will be a kiosk. However other parts of Malta will stay the same for a long time. To sum up we have what we have. No one will be demolishing those building because of a few unhappy people. Instead we have to adapt and to see this from the positive side. More houses will result in more jobs - construction guys, cleaners, designers, property managers and so on. Thanks for a video! Greetings to your operator ✌

I like that they kept the old part in that building but they should have tried to incorporaete that style of architecture in the new part. I realky would prefer it all authentic, the other thing building to high you block the light. I think they should have strict building codes.vif I was looking there I would not want a new ugly building. I think tha5v3ven fir southern California. Why move 5o an island with history to look and feel like everywhere else. They need to keep their history that is the attraction of Malta.
