This week we take a walk along Portobello promenade to see where you can go for something to eat when you head to Edinburghs lovely beach side area. We also get to see people braving the winter water swim.

I have a memory from the dim and distant past (about 40 odd years ago) that that take away shop at the beginning of the prom, was a greasy spoon type cafe, I'm sure my Nana took me in there and I had an ice-cream float, it's an abiding memory, so that tells you what a rare treat it was!

Born and raised in greendykes when it was really nice porty was our playground. Particularly loved the open air pool with the wave machine. Blissful childhood.

I had to smile. My South African-born daughter, now working and living in Edinburgh went to Portbello beach for her socially distanced loony dook. She said it was the best hangover cure ever.

Portobello is a surprisingly lovely beach. What other British city has it's own beach? A castle, a mountain, a beach, parks galore and the best, best pubs!! Plymouth (just thought of that) has some gorgeous beaches. Thanks for the vid.

Ah! The Costa del Portobello. Lots of memories there mostly in the 70's when the funfair was there, and I went on everything there eg, the Chair-o-planes, Dodgems, Waltzers, and not forgetting the Ghost Train. The Amusements I went to as well a little later. Whack-a-Mole, one arm bandits and coin operated stuff there, great memories.

At 11.45 the cafe used to be a pub , i and my late Dad had a pint in there in 1981 when i was home on holidays from Redcliffe Queensland Australia .Duncan Pitkeathly.

I used to lived there. and i miss the beach ur City i miss the scots and all about Edinburgh..two years ago since the last visit ur city BUT i'm happy i found Chanel and ur passion to Show us Edinburgh i hope soon we can travel again thank you for the work!

Portobello Beach looks lovely even on a "brisk" day (although I think those people swimming are crazy)! That crepe looked so delicious YUMMY. I love your explore vlogs especially when they involve food 😂

I've been bugging my husband to go to Portabello and I think this video will convince him that the next time we're in Edinburgh to go. He has a childhood neighbor that used to have a coffee truck there but we haven't been in contact since covid so hopefully she's still in business.

The place you passed with the scaffolding was The Dalriada, so you're quite right, there was a pub/restaurant along the "quiet" end! It's now been sold to a family so it will be a private house once it's all done up. Indeed there is a distinct lack of public toilets - but I do believe there will be toilets available to the public when the water works building (at the east end/Joppa) is taken over to become (I think) a restaurant!

I can vouch for Miro's being a lovely bistro. Stayed in Portobello a few times and the last time I had the pasta primavera on a Saturday night in August 2019. Great menu and very reasonable prices. Lovely friendly atmosphere too.

The Little Chartroom isn't a coffee stall, it's the outpost of a restaurant on Leith walk. The food in the stall is pretty damn amazing and i'd recommend it to anyone.

Brilliant video Tony. I love Porty and so many delicious places to eat. At the other end where the scaffolding was, used to be the Dalriada pub. It has been sold and is being turned into a family home. The Elf window was part of Porty Winter Wanderland, which featured about 80 stain glass window creations all over porty, that was on until 12 Dec.

I've noticed that most places to eat have a vegetarian selection. I would love to live in Edinburgh. It's very progressive. I don't know if you remember, but I had asked you whether or not you would be willing to give my cousins and I a little tour. Actually, they made me ask you. Lol. Anyway, we were supposed to go to Edinburgh back in May but had to cancel. We are still planning to come when we are able. Hope to see you roaming the streets.
