No matter where I am, I try to support local businesses. Especially small ones. You know the money is all or mostly staying in the community. National or global chains can take care of themselves. Tony always talks about & tries local businesses because he loves Edinburgh so much. No matter the subject of his blog, that love always shines through. I think it's one of the things that make his blogs so fanrastic.

Your excitement about all the wonderful things to try is infectious!🤩 If you haven't visited Stockbridge, Massachusetts yet, you should at to it your places to visit. It is a lovely historic town. Home to Norman Rockwell. I have visited since I was a teen in the 1980's, but it was such a charming place to visit. I would be not much has changed. I am adding Stockbridge to our places to visit in Scotland. All the best to you and the family!💙🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿💙

I will never have enough of these videos haha just worth it to see your enthusiasm about food. Love it. It also helps me to get to know new places, and most important places that are still open after lockdown.

We ate at Hectors when we came in the summer, the food was amazing! The cheese shop you showed came highly recommended by our friends who live locally. We loved Stockbridge and spent a day looking in the many charity shops then walked back into town via Circus Lane for Instagram photo opportunities. There’s an Anthony Gorman man in the water on the other side of the bridge like the one you filmed in Leith earlier in the year.

Hi, I’ve been to Edinburgh 3 years ago and Stockbridge is definitely one of the best places that I’ve never seen in the city. Thanks for working around there and remind me that lovely part of Edinburgh!

Im really loving your engaging walks. So thorough and refreshing. I think there should be more videos like these about other peoples home towns. Ive been enjoying your anecdotes about the area you live and grew up in. The only person who can tell you about an area is the person who lives there. Im going to Edinburgh next week and these little villages are enticing me more than the actual city itself!

There is so much to. see in the city centre, it is perfectly understandable why many of.the videos happen there. Many of us don't live in a place with such an exquisite city centre!

Great vid as always Tony. We love Stockbridge. One good tip for your viewers is to visit the vintage\charity shops in Stockbridge. With it being one of the more upmarket areas you can often find a designer bargain in those shops 😊

We love you walks and drives Tony. Thank you! If we were staying in Old Edinburgh, how far is Stockbridge, (walking)? Just curious, what sort-of food do they serve at Hector’s? Is it a chain? My DH is the same as yourself in regards to cheese. If it’s even in close vicinity to where he is, it will be eaten! 😉 Be safe. Be well.

Stockbridge is wonderful, though as you suggest, there is much more to explore in the vicinity, including the Royal Botanical Gardens, which are only a short walk away. Might I suggest your next time down that way (you might want to get your map out now) you start on the other side of the Stockbridge bridge from where you ended you walk. Commence at the bottom of India Street, which is actually a dead end - the street terminates with a fence - that is an elevated vantage point looking out over the area The area in around the stairs taking you down to street level is also a highlight. Across the street are shops and, at garden level on the corner of St. Stephen St., the Bailie pub and eatery. There is a J. Mellis Cheese Shop, a Farrow & Ball paint shop and various other boutique-type vendors offering a variety of goods including fitted kitchens. There is also the wonderful Circus Lane, at the far end of which is St. Stephen's Church (now a dance studio, I believe) and St. Vincent Chapel on the left (St. Vincent Bar on the right). Follow along to the left down the near side of St. Stephen St. to the end (the Bailie), then cross over and go back the way. The first left is the entrance to what was once the market. A quick peek in there reveals tucked away homes. Get back onto St. Stephen St. and go as far as Clarence St. Turn left onto it. Follow its length and then cross over the intersection into Saxe Coburg Terrace, which leads into Saxe Coburg Place. At the far end on the left are stairs leading down to Glenogle Road (the large red brick structure is the Glenogle Swimming Baths). But the attraction here is the Glenogle Colonies (or Stockbridge Colonies). Each short street, 12 in all, terminates at the Water of Leith. Folk living downstairs go in one side of their buildings; those upstairs enter from the other side, so they each have their own garden and need never see their neighbour. From there, going left will feed you back to Hector's and Stockbridge. But also look in at Reid Place, the first of the row houses. Here the tenements face the Water of Leith. And further along on the left is Malta Terrace, a short cul-de-sac with New Town-style housing to one side. On your right just prior to that is Arboretum Way, which feeds up to the west side and gift shop/restaurant etc. at the back entrance Botanical Gardens, though that - the gardens - could be another adventure if you've not already done it. You have indicated that you are not so familiar with Stockbridge, so I'm hoping this rather lengthy comment might assist you in planning one of your tours. Cheers!

I've never understood why anyone would travel and not eat/shop at local places they can't at home. My dad will go to big chains on the rare occasion he leaves his city. It's weird to travel to another city to eat at Burger King and shop at Walmart. If I want to do something like eat in a nice place I don't let being alone stop me. I take a book and enjoy my meal.

@@ClanBroonford Actuslly I wasnt proposing that You put Your personal profile on display , but the general profile of regular people in Edinbugh (in general ) Life for most people is rather dull . They get up in The mornining and go to work , come home on the bus or drive home and watch tv , then do the same thing the next day . On the weekend they go shopping for groceries at Tesco or wherever . Take a run in the park , or go to the pub .have a take away on the way home . I'm not suggesting You show me Your personal life ., but the general life style that the average person living in Edinburgh has . It's not all castles and icecream . I'm sure there are. niehbourhoods in Edinburgh that can show life in Edinburgh . Mike
