To be clear, here in Poland we know "Placki po węgiersku"(potato pies with meat goulash hungarian style) is not a hungarian dish. We call it that way because of the meat goulash. So it is our potato pies variant with hungarian style meat goulash on top. Like your content, love to see more.

Avengers level crossover. So fun when it just happens, and it's not staged. Although name "placki po węgiersku", as well as "fasolka po bretońsku" and some other named after country stuff, actually came from military cooks recipes that were stationed abroad. It literally is a polish cousine with ingredients that were avalible in a other countries, where our troops were deployed. Somehow unique in a world scale so I Heard :)

I’m surprised how your channel, method of presentation, manier of being easygoing are absolutely professional or attractive in contrast to what we’ve got in Poland where every pieces of information that owners of channel about cooking try to convey it’s like it would be showing in TV which is quite boring. The reason why I’m emphasising it so hard is KZbin in Poland is more popular than in Hungarian, however, it seems to me (and I’m based just on your video) that Hungarian KZbin is far better developed because for me this is exactly how KZbin channel should look like. So keep going and good luck!

Na! :)

Hi, it's a pleasure for me that you used my comment at 14:50 . If I have a true information, somebody in Cracov (City in Poland) had a restaurant. And one of the best dish was the potato pancake (or pie 🤔). And someday he thought that it will be a good idea to use a Hungarian goulash and serve it with this pancakes. And that's why in Poland we say Hungarian Pancakes. I hope that it's true version of story and people from Hungary will understand this connection of words. Regards from Poland !

Greetings from Poland 💖 U picked the best dish from Poland 😊
Let me explain a few issues here: The term 'placki'(plural form) doesn't mean 'pancakes'! It's more like a general term for all meal made from flour/potatoes which is baked or fried. 'Placki po węgiersku' doesn't mean that the whole recipe is from Hungary. It means that this is a 'placek'(singular form) which is made in hungarian style. Why did we create this recipe and match it with hungarian cuisine? The whole concept of it comes from the time of communist occupation(PRL). In restaurants in menu there was the weight put next to name of the dish. There were non-meat and more expensive meat dishes. So it was added a little bit of pepper-meat sauce to the 'placki' to be able to put in in the 'meat section' and keep a big weight and hight price. During the occupation the borders was closed, so everything which came from outside was very interesting. To make it more catchy it was called 'hungarian', because a lot of pepper come to Poland from Hungary. We also have a quite obsolate term 'węgrzyn', which literally means a hungarian guy. We call the wine from Hungary that way :)

I really like this video. Thank you for doing this! It was interesting to see the concept that Mietczyński did, but other way around :D The reason why he used milk in goulash is we don't really use premade liquid stock from carton, we make our own, or just use stock cubes that we dissolve in water. It's not that common to have it in the carton, so he didn't even think of it.

In Poland “pancakes” means “placki”. They are usually in sweet version, like placek z jabłkami (apple pie), we use word “pankejki” (pancakes) for typical pancakes as we all know🥞 But we also use word “placki” for placki po Węgiersku, and they have nothing in common with first and second one 😀 as I was searching you can also call this dish Hash browns! 😁 I love to eat it, I also like to add some cheese on the top of sauce. I would love to see you making our Polish bigos 😀 it was so fun to watch! Thank you both! 😊

Szia Szabi!
