Great video, just a quick note about the mono output - it does have a practical use, in fact I actually use it this way myself! In my case, it's not practical to add this to my pedalboard (for various reasons), so I simply have it sitting on top of my second amplifier. I have two identical outputs coming out of my tuner (so I can mute one amplifier for breakdowns, intros etc.) I run the second cable from my pedalboard into the Mimiq and out the mono output into the second amp. I set the doubler-mode to 1, I turn the "dry" knob to zero and the "effect" knob to full, that way it's modulating only the second amp and creating the desired stereo effect.

Awesome demo! I bought one of these to be a time saver in the studio. Ran an HM2-ish pedal in front then stereo out set @ 1 dub (Carvin V3 w/ Marshall 412 & Mesa single rec w/ 115 bass cab). Result was a really nasty but huge sound. Thought I was done, then the engineer panned all of that to one side and had me do it again, panning those tracks to the other side. Maybe overkill for a silly thrash punk band, but the end result was better than I could have expected and definitely better than if I had just double tracked with one or the other amp.

I use this live with my stereo setup, and it's so awesome! to the point where I cant play without it. My trick is to have it bypassed when I'm doing the intro to a song, or a solo or when the vocalist isn't singing and then activate it when she comes in for a verse etc. I have it set so its slightly below unity and naturally the effect is my sound sits back in the mix more and doesn't interfere with the vocals. It gives space in the middle for the singing. The best results are running the mimiq in stereo. Great vid man! EDIT: There's also a few toggle switches inside the unit. One of them switches between True Bypass and Buffered Bypass.

I'm used to playing through single channel delay setups for stereo widening, so it never really bothered me (only when it's done poorly). Help me understand this correct. I have a guitar head and a 4x12 cab. This will not work with what I have?
@harleyhexxe98062 жыл бұрын
That's correct. For this pedal or any other similar pedals like this to give you the desired effect, you need at least two amplifiers. Putting this into a single channel guitar rig, will sound like a cheap chorus effect but without the depth. Even a chorus pedal in a single channel amp rig doesn't sound all that great, but with two amps you get the wide separation and the depth. If you add panning or ping-pong delays between the amps, now you get spatial movement of your notes, chords, etc...

What’s going to happen if you run the 1st output through the front of your mono head (as well as boosted🤷♂️) and the 2nd through the effects loop (Delay for solo🤷♂️). (Half stack mono or stereo cab) will it still come out as poo? / any difference or exactly the same as mono?🤷♂️
@EversonBernardes5 жыл бұрын
Wild guess: tightness is the amplitude of a modulated delay, as you guessed. Probably not a simple modulation oscillation shape (like a pure sine), though, as that would become obvious quick. Say, something like two sines at large prime number frequencies. The differences in amplitude and harmonic content might be a multi-band compressor.
@boimesa81903 жыл бұрын
It would have to be a non-linear, possibly with some phase aligning DSP to regain tightness

To everyone singing the praises of this pedal, all I want to ask of is to go into windows settings or whatever you use if you can and set your headphones to output mono and relisten to all the comparisons. It sounds really great when you hear it stereo with headphones on where each track is in a different ear but when you reduce it back down to mono it really doesn't sound that convincing or good. I have one and tried it in stereo with 2 very different amps sitting across the room from each other and it just does not sound like anything more than a kinda lame chorus if anything. All these videos singing the praises of this pedal have going directly into an audio interface and thats the audio we get in the video split to left and right ear which of course is going to have an obvious stereo sound because it is literally 2 separate audio channels. In actual reality in a room with 2 amps the effect is minimal if anything.

One thing that I keep wanting to see from all the reviews on this pedal, is the actual waveforms recorded onto two different tracks in a DAW. I saw you actually did that but we didn't get to really zoom in on that waveform. How close do they resemble each other with tightness at the extremes? Or with tightness in the middle? I want to see the imperfections in those waves to see that it isn't simply a sample delay, but something a bit more sophisticated. Couldn't I get a similar effect by automating my second guitar track with slightly moving Haas effect (a sample delay moderately sawing back and forth between 0ms and 30ms) and then automate another small sawing of pitch by cents? Point is, show me the waveforms, and turn the tightness knob while recording to see how much of a difference it makes.
@nathanweinstein2766 Жыл бұрын
I assume the Mimiq acts like a whammy pedal… it pitch shifts digitally exclusively as the delay time changes. The only thing that I can see to confirm this is the fact that the firmware can be updated through a USB port… meaning DSP is involved. If I’m right, the volume aberrations would only occur during the delay/pitch changes. If this was occurring in the analogue domain, the pitch shift would undo the delay change, unless I’m being stupid.

While keeping it in true stereo and throwing something like a Fractal in there too, where both preamps also share that in the loop? Bonus if you could also be plugged directly into the Fractal via another A/B box? It makes my head spin like a good paradox should...but imagine the possibilities??

The Mimiq is made to work at its best in stereo. Don't know what TC decided to make a mono version of it.. It's pointless to me.

You can use the Petrucci trick as well. For dry rhythm tones, put an 8ms delay with a single repeat on one side of the stereo signal. I think you can also use the TC 2290 inspired 'ducking' delay to get some variation in the delay time as well. This is a classic live trick to make a single guitar track sound like a doubled track panned hard left and right...very important for big thick crunchy Metallica type rhythms. Give that a shot with your new stereo rig when all the pieces come together.

Edit: My bad...lol...I thought this was a different thread. I was talking to a guy this morning helping him put a Boogie Mark V into a four cable method with an Axe FX 3 in stereo. I thought that was this...that's why I said that at the bottom about the stereo rig. 😂

If Im "tracking" correctly buhdum ts! I got my pedal board, yada yada pedals. This would go at the end of my chain and send 1 chord each to the front of my amps? A friend suggested I wire each of my pickups to their own output jack, cause I also want to use a Looper on one rig to then play over it with the other. How could I combine all of this into one cohesive thing? Or so say Fuck all of that And send 1 of the outs from the doubler then Looper then other rig? Lolol I'm obviously new at this haha

Any Looper/Phrase Recorder will let you play over your recording. No additional rigging is needed for that function.Most Loopers will even allow you to record "Overdubs". Whatever you do, don't split your pickup signals. Everything related to guitars is designed to where that is not necessary.
