Our team developed a simulation for a plausible escalating war between the United States and Russia using realistic nuclear force postures, targets and fatality estimates. It is estimated that there would be more than 90 million people dead and injured within the first few hours of the conflict.

You'll continue to pay your student loans or be drafted with your pay going toward the debt. As dire as this scenario is its not enough for the US Government, who owns the debt, to let you off the hook. Sorry. In all seriousness its kinda F'd up to go from owing a PRIVATE entity with no authority over you at all, to having the US Government buy that debt, so that now you owe an entity that has the authority to throw you in jail, in a cage, enlist you in an army against your will, and the authority to kill people. THAT'S the entity you now owe. Quite a change in dynamics between creditor and debtor I'd say.

Putin is very smart. He knows there will be nuclear war. Therefore he wants to buy time and wait for winter to launch a big offensive against Ukraine with Belarus. Vladimir Putin for those who don't know, he scrupulously follows the doctrine of Mikhail Kutuzov (1745-1813), he says in his biography "that you should never face the European armies between spring and summer. To defeat Europeans, we have to wait until winter, that is to say the beginning of October, the cold and rough climate will give us an advantage because the Russian soldier is used to fighting in the snow and frost unlike the soldier who came from Europe which will not resist 5 days under a temperature of -10 degrees. Winter is our shield against Europe and the cold of the blades which will massacre thousands of European soldiers. Mikhael Koutouzov speech at the end of the war: "To repel the he antichrist Napoleon Bonaparte, we sacrificed hundreds of Russian soldiers to slow down his march on Moscow as soon as he arrived in kyiv, our objective was to hope that winter would arrive very quickly to counterattack. The Russian soldier will always have a ground advantage over the European soldier when winter comes."

There's more than a few flaws in this. 1. The UK has not had aircraft borne nuclear capability since the 1960's, similar to much of Europe. The US has the main NATO heavy bomber force (presumably that is the bulk of the planes shown in Western Europe) 2. NATO interceptors and AA would take down a chunk of Russian bombers - as demonstrated by the performance in Ukraine. 3) it completely ignores the role of SSN's on all sides - the primary purpose of which is to knock out the SSBN's they have been trailing for the last 12 months non-stop. 4. it fails to take into account the ABMDS both sides have. In all it looks like modelling is based on the 1960's scenario rather than a modern one - whilst warheads would still get through, it is unlikely to be as many as suggested here.

Great response. There are a lot of factors not considered- I understand simulations are always going to have assumptions baked in- to truly do a scenario such as this you'd need to implement something like Command Modern Operations to model the fighters, subs, air defenses, electronic warfare, etc. I have been working on that but it is an enormous undertaking.

A nuclear submarine that crossed American sea border was too deep for radio coverage when American fleet dropped small depth charges as a warning for the unindentified vessel to turn around. The captain thought the warning was an attack and that war had begun, and was going to launch a nuclear torpedo. A vice-admiral who just happened to be on board told him to stop and turn around instead. If he weren't there the captain would've started a war by mistake. I don't believe we're that close now

I beg to differ, I am from Romania ant thiese are the facts: (You can also check this out on the internets). The drone was brefly detected while entering Ro airspace, it was only for 8 minutes in Romanian airspace ( romania has lots of mountains that can hide radar signature) and was heading for Hungarian airspace. The RoAirforce did not intercept because the drone was fliyng too low , too fast and for too brief a time period in romanian airspace. The Hungarian airforce was alerted by the RoAirforce. The drone flew for a much longer period over Hungary (hungary is flat ground) but for some reason they did not intercept, furthermore it seems that the Hungarian airforce although they detected the drone they did not warn the Croatians about it's trajectory. It's really strange. Anyway, we saw the drone, but NATO was in no position to intercept. It happens all the time in mountainous areas.

Honestly, I think whoever published this just stole it from an older project from before 1991 and simply re-defined the borders to reflect modern borders. US is threatening to blow up the Russian fleet. Kill all the Russian troops if Russia uses a nuclear weapon. Putin must be thinking they're going to join NATO anyways. They are going to get military assistance to rebuild their military. Ukraine will at some point want to get back at Russia for what they've done. Russia's security is threatened. Ever heard of Chehov's gun? Quote: "You can't put a loaded rifle on stage if no one means to fire it." If people made nuclear weapons they eventually will be fired. We all thought that the collapse of the Soviet Union was the end of the play, but in reality it was just the end of the first act.

the sooner plan A happens the less death and detruction, as time moves on more bases, more weapons and more death. The people of the world should pray for this to happen ASAP. Sino-russian investments has made parts of Africa potential targets, Norway my birthcountry in this simulation is flyover in this simulation, but today a tactical target to strike. Pray for this, accelerate the nuclear conflict, the sooner they hit launch the less will die, the less of our planet will be demolished.

Does this not ignore three key de-escalating influences: #1 - The ability for each side to intercept the other's strike (e.g. at the aircraft stage a lot of interceptions would occur, causing fewer payloads to reach their targets); and #2 - Communication between the protagonists. Unless one or both of the participants (Russia and/or NATO) had decided on a path of total annihilation from the start, both sides would be rapidly communicating with each other in an attempt to stop things getting to a total annihilation scenario. Additionally, other nations would also be furiously attempting to have the conflict de-escalate within and without their allied groupings. #3 - it is also important to keep in mind that Russia's economic clout is actually very, very low and subsequently their ability to maintain and/or sustain their military capability at a level to compete with the United States/NATO is very questionable. Russia's economy is only marginally larger than Australia's. Hence, I would question the operational condition of a good portion of Russia's nuclear capability relative to what it potentially could be if they had a larger economy.

Much is not taken into account here, including concepts such as cost imposition strategies. It's mostly fantasy with limited use of real-life information. In my opinion, the whole ordeal is a bad attempt at making viewers push for disarming NATO of its nuclear capabilities.

Not that it would matter, but seems flawed, with some glaring omissions. France escapes unscathed, despite being the major nuclear power in Europe. Scotland escapes unscathed, despite having the largest concentration of nuclear weapons anywhere in the world, on the west coast (France have more weapons, but they are in three different places. The USA and Russia are big places with weapons spread out). Obviously as a Scot that lives in France it would work out better for me! One of the positives is that half the time, they don't actually work, karma might respond with many weapons exploding in their bunkers, submarines, or landing on their own cities. As a member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament for over forty years, I hope it doesn't happen, and that, if authorised, more ethical people down the chain of command ensure that the missiles are not launched.
