Traveling to ski or snowboard is the coolest thing you can do with the sports but it is not cheap to go to another state or country to ski. Here are all the tricks and tips I use with my travels as we travel the US to ride every ski resort.

Gotta be Georgia (the country) HUGE powder runs with very few people, $10/day lift pass for ultra modern lifts. Also great food and cool country. So cheap probably costs less than doing a week in USA or Western Europe. And of course, the longer you go for the more money you save. Bosnia is also very cheap but lifts less good.

Bring hot chocolate packets and then when you stop in the lodge to eat get the hot water for free (or 10¢ if you're at a vail resort lol) and you can have hot chocolate. Also if you're bringing granola/protein bars that have chocolate make sure to store them in a colder pocket. If you store them in your upper pants pocket or inside your jacket the chocolate might get all melty.

If you were wanting some insane pricing on lift tickets, Nordic Valley in Utah was selling some of its tickets for as low as $9, It definitely is more of a local vibe mountain but is rapidly expanding over the next year. I believe the tickets are still as low as $11 but need to be purchased for specific days, The weekends are still higher prices right now around $60.

it's the same ownership as purg, head and az snowbowl. they're really good at getting the most out of their mountains and not losing the local vibe and at a very competitive price point. i'm planning on two trips to utah this year. one for the cottonwoods and the other ogden, with nordic valley, powder mountain and snowbasin. nordic valley will be the chill day and probably under the lights too. seems like a great destination for the fam and you can take a day away and ride those other two for yourself.

Quick bit of appreciation for you saying Nevada correctly haha. Good tips! Another thing people should consider is driving for safety reasons! If you’re someone in Utah or Colorado where you already have snow tires on your car taking the road trip can be safer than if you buy a random rental car with all-seasons. A big deal if you drive to the neighboring Rocky Mountain states. Obvs would make as much sense the farther the resorts are

Get a metal (just in case you fall, it won't burst) water canteen and fill it up whenever you can. I also bring small packages of Electrolytes/ energy powders to add to the water. Saves time and money when you're on the mountain. I also have a backpack on to store the water and snacks when snowboarding

I'm going to Loveland for the 1st time snowboarding trip. they have a lift package and all gear rental package including board and clothes etc..for $155 is that good? i looked at a rental shop and it was about 100 just for helmet board and boots? so the 155 deal would definitely be better right because the lift ticket is 120 and the all the gear is basically $35? please help im so confused as a 1st time boarder going to the resort trying to make it more cost friendly.

IF you're going to ski or board for more than 1-2 days and you need to rent equipment you'll do best to rent for multiple days vs one day at a time. Becuz it's going to be cheaper. Also, some places will let you leave your rental equipment on the mountain in storage so you don't have to schlep them back and forth from your lodging to the mountain.

I was eyeing winter park, 350$ flight from east coast, 80$ round trip winter train that runs weekends to winter park? PB&J and staying at the mountain lodge in across the highway? Whole trip like 1000 for a week if I can split the hotel with a friend. U ever use the winter park train? Ever seen the mountain lodge across the highway? Dosnt look like u can walk from the lodge to the lifts tho… Im searching for pow and just having fun on groomers and side hits and beginner park… they get good pow? Google says so!

I usually book a air bnb or verb that way I get the kitchen. That is a huge money save cause you can stop at a store and grab some groceries to make your your own meals. I also have a backpack I ride with so I can put a water bladder in it lunch snacks and anything I might need for the day.

JB hitting it out of the park again! Just be careful on the airline deals and having a connecting flight for your destination. Your snowboard bag will most likely not make it on to your plane. It may take a few hours or even a day later for oversized baggage to arrive at your destination separately. You don’t want to lose a day on your trip.

Not 100% recommended but it's helped me. Read the details. When you book a flight with an airline once you're on the way they'll usually offer you a credit card for example Frontier will give you 50000 point plus 10-30k points if you sign up during the flight something like that but I had 76k point and used them for 1 free flight and payed 20 bucks for a second one. Check the interest rate. And always remember when you cancel it it hits your credit but free flights lol

If I had it to do over again, I would start my family off at Loveland Ski Area - Valley since it is a dedicated beginner's only area and the lift prices are a fraction of the big resorts ($50 for adults vs $250+ at Breck). The only saving grace for us was that Keystone and Breck don't normally scan at the bunny/beginner areas so you can use their carpet/platter lifts basically for free if you never got on a proper lift all day. Going that route, Breck's base peak 9 is the place to be. I currently live in Florida so I have to fly to skiing regardless (WV is at least 12 hours of driving). I have a family so we can't go during school and thus we have to wait for a holiday break. We always do Christmas with family so that leaves Spring Break - which most East coast ski resorts are either closed or mostly slush/ice. Since we fly to snow, I just fly to Denver. Even so, for a family of 5, airfare runs us $2500 alone. We stayed at a townhome (VRBO) that ran us about $100 per night per person for 5 nights ($2500) - plus a couple extra nights in Denver for travel on each end (suites that sleep 6, $200 each night). Plus, meals (we bought groceries to save plus a few restaurant meals and fast food on travel days) - about $1500 for 9 days. Equipment rental was around $900. Plus $2500 in lift tickets and $500 in lessons. $150 airport parking. $700 for car rental. Plus a few winter clothes items before the trip - we knocked out the big stuff last year. All in, solidly in the 10-15k range for 4 days of skiing and 2 snow tubing days. It was a great trip, but I need to find a way to make this cheaper otherwise we can't do this every year. I realize I could save a bit on airfare if I went with a budget airliner or didn't mind connecting flights (I drove to Miami to get a direct flight to Denver since I have terrible luck with connections). We are going to give Breck another go next year so I got the Summit Value Pass $549 for myself and another family member - the others aren't strong enough skiers to justify that yet so I plan to just use the Buddy Pass benefit for them if they ever make it off the bunny slopes. After that, we might give Utah a chance but who knows.
