I’m a former FS Spotted Owl biologist (1991-92). This won’t stop the Barred Owls and only delays the inevitable take over and occasionally breeding with each other. Spotted Owls require specific contiguous old-growth habitats, while Barred Owls are generalist who are better suited to the highly fragmented forests of today. Might as well try stopping a tide with a sump pump…

These same people decided about 40 yrs ago it'd be a good idea to introduce wild turkeys in N. Idaho and today you'd be hard pressed to find a grouse because the turkeys are 5x the size, 3x as prolific, and require the same habitat.
