Stapleton was such a great airport. Moved to Colorado in 1992 and remember flying in there often before it closed.

That was such a great spot, especially when T-Storms were creeping over the mountains, heading towards the airport. Nobody would bother pulled-over cars.

Went thru Stapleton many times in the mid to late 80s & early 90s when I had layovers from visiting with relatives in California, It was a big airport. So many memories...

United and Continental both had hubs there. And fought for customers. Now they are both one airline! It was a busy airport in it's day. Last time I flew to DEN. It was Stapleton in 1985. Continental 727.

Grew up in Aurora spotted out at Stapleton many years (exact spot you were for the close up shots lol) when I was younger. Even got an amazing tour of the United Training center. Man DIA is nice but there was something so nostalgic about Stapleton. Loved going under the runways on the highway..

You can’t get this close at ANY airports anymore. I live near Orlando Florida and I remember when you could park across the highway from Runways 18R/36L and 18L/36R to plane spot, but ever since 9/11 they fenced it all off, I understand for about 5yrs, but they need to open it back up.

I remember the controllers and pilots talking about the “farm”. What was that, in the ATC world?

Could it have been "The Ranch"? Approach and tower controllers often referred to the ranch, which really was "Sky Ranch Airport" and used often as a visual reference point for approaches to Rwy 26's at Stapleton. Often flights would call Denver tower "over the ranch" on final approach. Sky Ranch was located at 2500 Himalaya Road, Aurora, Colorado 80011 and is still a home for Univair Aircraft Co. 🙂
