The first thing my grandfather taught me about planes, was to protect a supersharp cutting edge by placing the plane on its side or withdraw the cutting edge so that it does not extend to a cutting position. Great video!

Yep - not shown is a thin strip of leather at the bottom that keep the keeps the plane blade off the base. Mine are set for about a .003" - .005" Cut. Except for the #40 which is a wood hog.
