Thanks for taking the time to demonstrate this. My planer has been sitting in its case for years because The directions on how to do this in the manual were very poor. You made it very clear.

"use 150 grit or more" and you go with a 120. That was funny

For those of you don't have one of those alignment tools. 1.Saw a piece of wood at the required depth, make sure it's perfectly parallel 2.Lay your blade on top so the edge side is following the edge of the wooden piece 3.Use some masking tape to join the edge side to the wooden block 4.Now lay the alignment piece on top and push it in so it is flat against the other side of the wood 5.Tighten

What's the jig called at 6:10 used to set the blade in the holder? No luck googling it.

I've got what looks like exactly the same planer as dusty guy (Hitachi F-20A, purchased 29 years ago). I didn't know what the jig was either. But I looked in the carrying case, and there it was! In its plastic wraper, new and unused. Didn't know what it was for until today. I guess it is a Hitachi part (SET GAUGE P20SB) from toolpartsdirect.com.
