I've always been too scared to use third party sites on Skyscanner to book, but you've shown it's absolutely fine. I tell you what, watching this channel can save you serious wonga. Now I can book legacy airlines and just sit back praying for a 3hr+ delay to pay the trip for me. And maybe even a curry wurst. Cracking video mate!

Expedia is the same often gets LHR to USA coach then internal flights and home flight as premium for a lot less than Vrigin or Delta
@TheGreatLordDufus9 ай бұрын
Sometimes they are just useful search tools, as often booking directly with the airline will get the same deal cutting chances of being given the run-around should things happen. I've booked a few through both Skyscanner and more often Expedia and not had a problem, though will pay a little extra to avoid the 1 star rated third parties on Skyscanner just in case. But I don't fly often, and am on the other side of the world so the European experience may be different and I've been lucky that few issues have risen with delays/cancellations that required sorting out.
@egpx9 ай бұрын
I think it’s always better to book direct with the airline if you can as any problems and you are dealing direct rather than through an agent but Skyscanner can reveal some cheap prices and indeed some hidden flights which makes it worth the risk.

We got caught up with the Lufthansa strike at Frankfurt on 20th February. Flying back from Perth Australia via Singapore, the day before leaving, got email to say flight Frankfurt-Glasgow is cancelled. Got Frankfurt good, went to there desk they had booked us on a KLM flight to Amsterdam-Glasgow which involved a 5 hour delay in Frankfurt. After getting home filled in the compensation form and within 10 days got a substantial payment, so we'll done Lufthansa

I found it a lot easier than flying from Heathrow to Frankfurt. We went to the stadium you flew over to watch Mainz 05 play Borrussia Dortmund, one of the best matches I've watched, the German fans just keep going with their cheering!!! Have you ever thought of doing a multi city train vs plane thing in Europe??

That’s great if you live somewhere where you have a choice. If you live somewhere like Inverness, you have the choice of very expensive BA, KLM or Loganair, or you go with affordable EasyJet. Not that I have had any issues with EasyJet, from my own personal experience they are actually well better than expensive BA flying from Inverness. I flew with EasyJet twice yesterday to and from London, yet again absolutely superb flight and superb service and cheaper than a return to Glasgow on ScotRail

Enjoyed whole series about Hamburg, its certainly changed since I lived there in 1978, only to be expected I suppose. For me to get there then it was a Dan Air (remember them?) flight from Luton via Frankfurt, or direct on the way back, the plane just did a circular route and ended back in Luton. Other alternative was the Harwich to Hamburg ferry, which was often quite pleasant but took a whole day and night. Now I think I will definitely have to do a return visit, probably by Eurostar via Brussels/Amsterdam.

You should try them out 👌🏼 you are so right about the legacy carriers as well - you know you are going to get home whatever happens, and if they can’t get you home they will look after you. Scott, strap yourself to your seat. One of my Ryanair flights a few months ago was cancelled and the girl at the airport desk rebooked me for free to an AirBaltic flight including a meal (which you normally get charged extra for like on Ryanair). And when I arrived at the gate they had changed my AirBaltic seat from the standard class to business class (not much difference with standard class, but nevertheless fun). So I guess Ryanair can do certain stuff well. Or maybe it was the airport ....

The flight was delayed by 20 min and we had only another 20 min to catch the Munich-Dublin flight which we managed to do running the stairs. But our luggage hadn't. It stayed in Munich for another day. So we had to travel across Ireland without our clothes, medicines, etc for almost 3 days until the luggage was delivered by a courier to our hotel. And 2 people got their bags even 1 day later. And people complaining about Ryanair 😅 And on our flight back Dublin Frankfurt Warsaw, we sat in the plane in Frankfurt for an hour before taking off.

The day we we were supposed to fly back Berlin-Frankfurt-Edinburgh was the day after the air traffic control disaster so we were worried we were would be bumped off the FRA-EDI flight but we weren't. The luggage handling situation was awful at both Frankfurt and Edinburgh though and we were left waiting over an hour for our luggage at Edinburgh. I fly Lufthansa from Berlin via Frankfurt to Manchester several times a year, because it involves less walking than with KLM via Amsterdam or Air France via CDG, and 45 minutes change is usually OK, as long as there's no long queue at the passport control (which again tends to be shorter than at Amsterdam or Paris). But it's not a good time to fly Lufthansa right now so I'm sticking to other airlines. Last week there was a LH ground staff strike and all flights at Frankfurt and Hamburg were cancelled (at the same time as Deutsche Bahn strike, so people couldn't travel at all!) and this week a LH cabin crew strike has been announced. There seem to be a Lufthansa strike at least once a month, if not more! You were lucky you made it despite the delay.

If its operative staff from FRAPORT or other groups that are not directly in contract with lufthansa or any subsidaries lufthansa might not have to compensate.

Lufthansa is notorious for scheduling vast numbers of domestic flights between the main German cities and then being very willing to cancel them at short notice for whatever reason (not enough bookings, staffing, technical issues) because everyone can generally fit onto the next flight an hour or so later. For domestic commuters it‘s a minor hassle, but as you found out it can cause you to then miss an international connection if you‘re unlucky. I would always allow at least two hours at Frankfurt (and sometimes that can be necessary just to find the way between terminals).

Depends what the delay is for, I was due to fly out with klm to the canaries, via a pit stop in Schiphol, flight got delayed then cancelled a few hours later due to poor weather at Schiphol, got transferred onto a air lingus flight that same day, via Dublin, by that time the weather had shifted and that flight also got cancelled. Air lingus staff were less than helpful, I went back to the Swiss air booth who had actioned the previous transfer on behalf of klm as they don’t have staff at Glasgow, and managed to get on a British airways flight via Heathrow the next morning, stayed at the airport travelodge in Glasgow as it was a 6am flight, eventually got there 24hours later. No compensation as it was weather related, klm eventually relented and refunded me my unexpected hotel cost, but that was it. Drama wasn’t over as I hadn’t made it out on my outgoing flight it meant my return flight with klm was cancelled, and their system showed I didn’t make the air lingus flight they transferred me onto. After a bit of a battle and paying for a last minute flight back home, they eventually refunded me the cost of the extra flight aswell. Moral of the story, when the proverbial hits the fan, check, check again and triple check everything is sorted before getting on that plane.

I wish we had such flyer protections for domestic flights in the USA as you have in the EU. As to their 747's, Lufthansa often use them for flights to Newark (EWR) and other locations in the USA. In fact some are in use today (Sun. March 10th) to/from the USA out of MUC, FRA. It is possible that the pax but also freight loads are good enough to justify their use. They are planning to reinstate a few A380's and they still operate a few A340's (a lovely model).

As a german, I try to avoid Lufthansa as much as I can. On routes where they offer service with *Alliance Partner I always pick those (such as with LOT to Warsaw or TAP to Lisbon - although I dont like TAP as well!) or with Codeshare such as KC to Almaty or Astana. As a Travel agent, I advise my customers to do so as well. I only book them if its per customer request and they sign a document validating this, or if there is no alternative. Lufthansa B2B service is horrible (i dont know about B2C because I do my own stuff also via B2B). Hotline is sh*t and doesnt help you. As a german I had better experience calling the english hotline than the german hotline, which is an absolute joke and a disgrace. On Short to medium haul even ryanair is competitive - at least for experienced travelers knowing what to do in case something goes wrong. On long haul I always check if a better offer is available even including other european airports (chicago via warsaw, carribean via amsterdam or even asia via middle east). Even condor is competitive at this point, if you dont fly with any twin-/sister-/partnerairline like air bulgaria, marabu, etc. But even if we compare on those levels DISCOVER is absolutely shit (speaking on B2B level again, on discover you cant make seat reservations for tour operator bookings? clown airline I swear).
