About Wilanów Palace you are right - it seems like a separate city - because it was, in a way. This was a suburban King's residence near Warsaw. It is just that Warsaw.. well, since then, got much bigger :D and now Wilanow is a district of the city. And this little palace complex is now surrounded by a lot of new flats built in the last 10-20 years. The district expanded/built up a lot during late 90s/early 00s and was settled by a lot of "yuppies" - the first generation where a lot of young people managed to make decent money in corporate/capitalist Poland that was shaping up - and looked for a place to settle. The emerging middle-class, in a way.

Wilanów used to be a separate city on the outskirts of Warsaw which is why you felt the small town vibe. ;) The palace in Wilanów was the summer residence of the kings while the castle in the old town was their main residence (on the castle square you visited in one of your earlier videos). Between the castle and the palace is a street with a few names along the way but collectively it's called the royal route (trakt królewski) with Łazienki park lying along it about halfway through. In modern Polish łazienka means bathroom, in those days Łazienki park housed the royal baths. :)

I would definitely check out Kabaty if I were you. It has some modern buildings, and it’s much better communicated with the rest of the city, because of metro. Also, parking there is much easier, lots of shops, the wood is very close, so a good place to go for a walk. I used to live there and I loved it. I also used to work in Caffè Nero in Wilanów for over a year, and I didn’t really get a good impression after closer examination of the neighbourhood.

@The_Monolith2 жыл бұрын
Parking isn't that bad. What's worse is the traffic congestion. Before Covid, it was hell in the morning. The streets were so clogged that the traffic lines started in the parking lots. That's why my cousin ended up selling her condo and leaving this area. Nowadays, with so many people working from home, it's not as bad, but it remains something to take into consideration before moving over there. The city is planning a new tramway line that will connect Wilanów to the city centre. It should be ready in two years. A lot of people were waiting for such an announcement, because this area clearly needs more public transport options (the buses are not enough).

Remember that if you want to eat out, then you should always consider the milk bar. I don't know how, but they have an amazing quality to price ratio. Łazienki Park and Palace are another King's doing. If you look at the building from across the pond it seems like it was built on the water. That's why it is also known as the palace on the water. I just accidentally tapped the screen in the wrong place and I ended up in Belgrade. At least I think I did. I didn't have the captions on and the guy was speaking Russian. I like the street signs. Sometimes in Massachusetts the streets are missing street signs. But these ones are big. And it only took me a couple of weeks to notice that they seem to have the neighborhood on the bottom. Of course hitting pause at exactly the right moment is a little tricky. :-) The other night I tracked down a commuter train station, in Russia, on a map, from somebody pointing it out on KZbin video. It was hard finding the right map. Most of them didn't show all the stations. They were in Cyrillic. And this one was abbreviated. But I really like subway maps (they are so much simpler than regular maps) so I thought I'd give it a shot. Which gives me a question: You have a United States driver's license? However, I would not like these places to be traumatic for you due to what is happening in Ukraine, so I would like to emphasize: if you are ready for it or maybe, when the situation in Ukraine calms down (I hope it will soon), I heartily recommend visiting The Warsaw Uprising Museum and seeing the mysterious place on 14 Waliców Street is really worth it! Sady żoliborskie is a postcomunistic part of Żoliborz. The only newly build part of Żoliborz is Powązki. Odolany became very expensive but worth it

Sadyba is also a very nice place to live in. I'd look at the 4 floor apartment buildings..

@@charonboat6394 it's just nowhere, western part of Warsaw from Puławska towards Vistula lacks proper public transport, they don't have even a tranway there

@Robert Urbańczyk Have you ever been there? Sadyba is right by the aleja Sobiekiego, which goes straight to Staròwka with many interconnetions, and there are buses, on one side. On the other side there is Czerniakowska with plenty of good public transport right there.

I told you that you gonna like Wilanów. Also check Jana Kazimierza street in Wola. It's really near by where you living. Also modern residential area but higher (I mean higher buildings).
