Nice video today, you are without a doubt a perfectionist! It's refreshing to see your attention to detail and doing things right! Congratulations and kudos to you sir! I love watching your stuff, and thankfully I am able to watch all the video for the past several weeks instead of only parts like before

Thank you Dave! I try to get things done correctly where possible. I do a lot of triple checking - especially if it's the first time doing something or if working with others that have a 'good enough' attitude and are a bit less than a perfectionist. Glad you could watch the entire videos! it help the algorithm you know 😉

The massive concrete block wall is nearly ready to go up! Just this last bit of prep work and the wall goes in - at least the blocks we have on-hand! So-far this wall has required almost as much work as putting up the building itself, but in the end having a building roughly 1/3 larger than we would have without the retaining wall is worth the extra effort. In the end it will be a win/win. Much more space in the woodshop and less lawn maintenance at the same time! 😁

My wife informed me that Yoohoo is actually a drink - our daughter used to drink it from the little sippy boxes when she was little. Never saw it in a glass bottle before. Learn something new every other day 😉

They certainly are! Hopefully they do their job well - it would be pretty bad if the wall fell over!

Can you post an update of your concrete bag retaining wall?
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo Жыл бұрын
It's a concrete block wall - no bags involved. The wall is done, and the playlist can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anmuZWODdtl_bMk

That's going to look great and last forever. Where can a person order such block? How about a link in the description?
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Sic Boy! Unfortunately a link won't help. The blocks weigh so much that you want to ship them the shortest distance possible. The good news is that most concrete companies make them. What you have to do is find the nearest concrete plant and check their website or stop by. Every concrete plant in our area makes these, but they all have different forms and some take longer to make the blocks than others. Open Google Maps and look-up concrete and that will be your start. Pick the closest plant and you're off to the races. Good luck! 😁

Hi Mojo. How many courses will there be
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Larry, there will be two courses of base blocks and a cap block. Five feet in all. If you go over three base blocks, you need to add dead men, geotextile, or another form of anchoring.

Is there a concrete footing at the base of the wall to prevent it from shifting from soil and hydraulic pressures?
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo 2 жыл бұрын
No, there is not. These walls rely on sheer mass to stop them from shifting. Over three blocks tall requires a geo mat every six feet though I believe.

@@PlanetMojo There would have to be proper drainage openings at the bottom of the wall to prevent displacement by hydraulic pressure.
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo 2 жыл бұрын
@@carlcampbell6827 They drain between the blocks. These blocks have been used for very many years and have a proven track record. This particular wall has washed gravel wrapped in landscaping fabric behind it to speed drainage, but we have a similar wall in one of our pastures that does not have that and it drains just fine. 😊

@@PlanetMojo OK thanks. I assumed there were major forces to deal with using blocks that big. Is there a point at which licensed engineer is required to obtain approval to construct a heavy retaining wall?
@PlanetMojo
@PlanetMojo 2 жыл бұрын
@@carlcampbell6827 You're welcome Carl, I've seen these walls 10 high in an industrial setting (to retain scrap metal), and one block maker show a wall taller than that! These specific blocks do not even require gravel for drainage until they are 3 high or higher. Over three high they require geo fabric into the backfill every two blocks high after that. Basically at one or two high they require nothing but a level surface, but I like drainage so I put in washed gravel wrapped in geo fabric just past the first joint. I actually did this yesterday as we put in the final section. Here is the link to the block wall playlist: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anmuZWODdtl_bMk We will be adding the video shot tomorrow soon, and when the weeds die down a bit I'll show the other two block walls we have. If you have any more questions, let me know 😊

Some of them have lines where they were two separate pours. These blocks are made from concrete that was returned to the concrete plant.
