The AC 40 I reckon is a format designed with logistics in mind. I see it eventually replacing the F50s when the fleet needs an overhaul. Although I’m not sure how small course friendly they are. This AC40 regatta is a double ground test. AC75 test and Sail GP replacement test.

As a sailing purest, for me Sail GP is a bit….meh. Watching great sailors drift around in no wind because the tv rights dictate they have to is really quite boring and a bit embarrassing for the sport.
@hogwash146211 ай бұрын
But they are still quicker than most other boats on the water in that light wind aren't they?
@christopherkenrick958211 ай бұрын
It was never intended to entertain sailors, it was designed to bring in new viewers to the sport.

We keep hearing Ben is the best sailor ever, maybe its time for him to prove it, go team NZ
@timetherington-judge371911 ай бұрын
Anyone that doubts Ben's talent, commitment, or determination to win absolutely has no idea about him or who he is. If there is a way to win, he has proven time and time again that he will find it. These boats are just like F1, the engineering has a much bigger influence than the athletes. It's obvious that Team NZ have engineered the best solution, so their sailors are at a massive advantage.

They are off the pace. They also made mistakes out on the course. At this level you have to sail a flawless race and have a fast boat. As usual with the Brits they talk themselves up, but ,so far, have failed to deliver. They have a huge budget and, according to them, God is at the helm. We shall see......

How to get rid of the cavitation? Lift the foil above the surface, and use the surface tension as your lift point. The rudder could still act as the anchor point. This means the foil arm and pivot needs to act like a racing suspension. But, this can also mean the boat can push itself up from the water and the inner arm could extend further for more counter momentum and less unwanted counter momentum, as in when lifted out of the water.
@weatheranddarkness11 ай бұрын
you mean planing?
@oikkuoek11 ай бұрын
@@weatheranddarkness Yes and no. The side arms would have a "spoon" type of shape in the end that would be planing, or skipping on the surface, but the hull itself would still rest of the ground effect air matress and anchored by the rudder. The rudder would then have both horizontal and vertical flaps for controls. This way the initial launch in the air whould have more lift, and with the different medium to pass for the foil arms, more top speed.
@oikkuoek11 ай бұрын
@@weatheranddarkness And for the next evolution, make the arms completely wing shaped and glide the boat over the water connected to water only by the rudder. I have one of these designed to be made out of wood, but the initial launch would be done by jet propulsion. Just to make the acceleration easier.

I think the Brit’s need to learn the same lesson that the kiwis did three cup cycles ago. Unfortunately due to egos I don’t think they will.

America's cup should be good for sailing.....the allure, the history.....but it just isnt. The AC kills sailing in so many ways. Think we need to just give up on it and move fully to sail gp, like F1 exists as a the pinnacle for motorsport. Pity as I want to love AC.......would be happier with high performance version of a TP52 ie as a pure inshore boat that planes very easily.
