Planetside 2 || ESF Tutorial || Hover Fighting Basics

This isn't meant as a replacement for other tutorials, but to show new and not so new players how and why the ESF works like it does in hover mode. If you still need more info after watching this, then it will hopefully make understanding other, more detailed tutorials easier.

This video is exactly what I need right now. Where I'm at, I can go up to an enemy esf with stealth and fire the 1st burst but as soon as they react I'm missing them entirely until I'm dead. Will learn this, thanks

PERSONAL TIP: Bind "Throttle Anolog" to your "S" key; it will help stop your ESF & place it in hover mode faster. Huge game changer for me. Overall, great tutorial 👍 I been playing since BETA and while I have won dogfights, I have mostly been killing ground infantry, this video helped a lot to understand why sometimes while dogfighting my esf boost forward and kept getting me killed. Unlike other pilots, I was unable to understand the air vehicle keybind instructions because I had never flew in a game before, so I literally learn to fly through trial an error, just directly jumping into an ESF and pressing random buttons to see what each one did.

Dont. It can be a bad idea in surprisingly many situations. When jumping people, you at times want to slow down slightly as to not overtake a slower enemy ESF, that you know will be accelerating once they react. So there you want a gradual slowdown to stay on target instead of doing full stop while they boost away. Better have it on "E" so you have both options.

Which frame are you using? Hover or dogfighting? Some of these guys go from full speed to hovering + burning around without a slow down from their straight line flight.

Hover. Never use Dogfighting, it's a downgrade. I've got a tutorial about transitioning between forward flight and hover that has been 90% done for months but haven't had the time to sit down and finish it. I'll get down to it one of these days.

When was hover introduced they didn't have it 5 years ago. The purple fighters would just stop dead in their tracks.

I'm pretty sure it's always been there, unless there were changes in the alpha or early beta that I don't know about. It took people some time after launch (November 2012) to figure out the mechanics though, most players were still flying ESFs like regular jets during the first few months of the game.

I've hoped this helped out to improve but since dying in all duels in least than 10 seconds, no dealing any crap of damage, getting swarnmed by pros, and harassed vby G2A lockongs and AA is pure BS to me, in only have gold medal on needler just for killing abandoned aircraft or turrets it just fucking over

Learning to fly on your own can be pretty brutal. The best thing to do is finding someone of a similar skill level and practice by the warpgate. A good player works better of course, but it can be hard to find one that would practice with you regularly. If you can also find a group to fly with, most likely an outfit, then you can cover each other's backs instead of getting swarmed on your own.
