Honestly the fact that this game even still exists at all, and is continuing to get attention from both players and devs, is more than I was expecting 12 years on. I'm just happy to see the game still exist. One day, the severs will shut down for the last time. and that will be a very very sad day. but that hasn't happened yet, and I am very grateful for that. While we all may not agree on what the game should be, I think we can all agree that there's nothing else like Planetside 2.

I saw the roadmap drop, and I am semi-hopeful that this game may get some form of a revival. I do hope the new developers take the game further. Toadman Interactive (the development team that has been Hired, THEY DO NOT OWN THE IP) has some good games under their belt.

As someone who came back to PS2 for the 100th time. It's always good to come back and just have a solid time with this game. After BBR I have definitely grown to appreciate this games consistent gameplay formula. Glad this game is still running.

Same answer as always. Play it! It’s free, and it’s got its problems, but every time I log in during prime time there are so many “only in planetside” moments. Will always be my favorite game of all time, and that still hasn’t changed in 2024. Give it another shot, I’d love to squad up and play if you want someone to roll around with!

Personally I'm very hopeful. Wrel and his team were very focused on big scale content updates but in my opinion that's not what the game needs in its current state. I'm hoping Toadman Interactive takes their time to start fixing smaller and less flashy things like infantry balance and base designs so we get more stable and fair fights. All we can do for now is just wait and see if they deliver on their promises of improving the core gameplay tbh

Okay yeah only 3 major content updates planned for the year but...if they're targeting things that have been actual points of concern for players, and done thoughtfully, I think they'll go much further in boosting activity than the "massive additions" that Wrel and RPG had been trying to force on us for the past few years, additions that almost no one was asking for. Don't forget, you just made a video a little while back outlining the numbers that show how the most successful update since escalation was the one where mostly, they just rebalanced guns and gave them some new attachments. Little stuff isn't little when it's what we've actually been looking for.

@KaiserMattTygore927 yes but i don't think what people wanted was a continent so fundamentally different from what already existed, or at the very least, I don't think they wanted a new continent MORE than they wanted lots of quality of life fixes, even if that continent desire was more longstanding. Especially looking at how pop drops and community groans when Oshur is in the rotation, I would consider it not a great update at retaining players, and certainly not at bringing in new ones

@@nickanmahian1125 Part of that is also due to just some of the horrible base ideas on Oshur and the absolute letdown that was anything water related to the continent to the point it's 90% useless while the other 10% is gruelingly slow and sometimes even painful to play. If they didn't fuck those two things up so royally then it'd probably be far better received.

@Marxman-bi5yu Marxman, I think I agree with you, but here's the issue. You've sort of just described the two elements that fundamentally make up the entire continent: bases, and water. So yes, saying if the bases and water mechanics weren't so bad Oshur could've been good, may very well be true, that's also kind of like saying "if Oshur wasn't bad, Oshur could've been good". At that point I think this indicates the problem was not with the execution but with the concept at its core. This brings me back to my original point that the focus and vision of major updates has been pretty flawed since escalation, with perhaps the exception of the introduction of NSO and of course that update with the weapon balancing (the names of those updates escapes me now).

BRuh back when the PS4 was fresh and there weren't many games there was PS2, some of the most insane battles I've ever seen. Battles with atleast 750+ players in 1 fight, completely out of this world.

You jumped in the back of my harasser probably in 2017 saying, "I make KZbin montages maybe you'll make the video." 😮. It was a tough start and dragged out a bit having to go cross country to an Amp Station. Definitely did some work there, and made it into a short clip though looks unlisted now. Zarkayan. Not good at fps but I enjoyed Tank/harasser. Looking back at PS2, thought I'd say hi.

I honestly still think one major issue is the fact there is almost zero advertisements for planetside. In the 9 years I have played I have only seen one singular ad for planetside. I get advertisement costs money but still wouldn't it be a fast and easy option to bring in new players. In turn that would get more players in the game and hopefully spending money.

@@TheTerroristOfTheClan awfully pessimistic don't you think? Even a few players retained can make a big difference. All it would take is a few sticking around then getting their friends to join. That's how the game grew in the first place. Use that to offer discounts on bundles get them to put some money into the game and they are way less likely to leave. Maybe even sponsor a creator or streamer etc etc. Point is if nothing is done the game dies. So which makes more sense, fading into obscurity or actually doing something?

I think shifting the focus to improving existing content will make a huge difference. How base fights are conducted, lattices, alert rotations, etc, can all end up making a big difference. The graphics are already great for a game of this kind, and there is no real need for a planetside 3 as of yet. For example, oshur and construction were both, once upon a time, "all the hype" and "may be the thing that saves planetside", etc. But at the end of the day, improving the fights, and increasing alerts (+ more alerts on limited tiles for maximum carnage) is enough for now. Another vehicle or class would be neat

From what I remember, last year during anniversary event, there was no of the classic like X6-X8 exp stacking so the game felt as dead as usual. No really good fights when i checked and that was disappointing to me.

What they not listed are bugfixes. And there are a lot of bugs. So I guess if they take care of them I'm not mad that there isn't a lot of new stuff. And it also would make more sense to fix the game before you make large updates

It's... something! I'm all for them taking the time to address some of the pain points of the game before they start rushing out new content. I know new content is good and exciting but I genuinely feel like most of the new content we got in the Rogue Planet era was... a bit shit? Launch Bastions were horrible, and now they're just annoying. War assets have mostly been a vehicle for vehicle spammers to get the game's most powerful force multipliers in places they shouldn't be, a source of useless goddamn bubble shields (I swear, nine times out of ten they end up helping the enemy rather than whoever placed them), and the hell that is instant orbitals, anywhere on the map. Oshur... is Oshur. The Colossus is cool, I guess? So I'm all for Toadman taking a step back and trying to alleviate issues with the game rather than rushing out more new content that might not even be good. The Sunderer rework is promising, I'm looking forward to it, but just the other day, they updated PTS to have lower Oshur unlocks and an Oshur-specific alert that triggers quickly and shuffles it out of play again before it has a chance to kill an entire night of PS2. I greatly anticipate it hitting live. I've seen the possibility of class tweaks happening too. If I had to guess, I would expect Infiltrator to be the one most in Toadman's crosshairs. I would also expect LA to lose some AV potential, and they might even do something to stymie Medic's ability to revive an entire room with one button multiple times in a row. I'd also like to see some of the cheesier guns tweaked back to where they were at pre-Nano removal. I'm still overall in favour of Nano being nerfed to oblivion, but I can't deny that some weapons, like BASRs, Scout Rifles, and Shotguns have been completely cracked since it happened. Tweaking the damage values so they're effectively where they were at pre-Arsenal would go a long way to fixing them. Also for some reason Semi-Auto Snipers got a huge buff last year? That needs fixing.

So the short version is same shit different devs, got it. At least we don't have to deal with Wrel's shitty ass destroying the game for nearly a decade and replacing it with crazy, delusional and often stupid ideas to repaint it in his own LSD fueled vision anymore. Like ok sure, not a HUGE update for a first year under new devs? But let's face it, the founding of RPG and their first year of content was a drastic emergency measure to take PS2 out of it's coffin while the pallbearers were lowering it down into it's grave. So give them some slack for that at the very least...at least their actually trying to do something good for the game that DBG, RPG and Wrel never would have in a lifetime. And as you said, they have a LOT on their plate in terms of fixing and improving planetside, plus whatever other projects they may have that splits their team up.

@@vothbetilia4862 Depends on a server. Cobalt and Miller get around 450-600 people during primetime (possibly more throughout weekends). Not sure about Soltech but i would guess it’s nearly the same. Connery is dead alongside with PS version of the game. Emerald is the most active with stable population during the day and busy primetime. Can get up to 800-900 players sometimes. Overall, people are mostly inactive due to lack of updates

i see all these videos and every single time I pisses me off more and more because what I see is "PC PC PC PC PC" I played on console the game is on crutches barely playable barely viable but there is NOTHING absolutely NOTHING coming for them We literally lost a whole map and it has yet to come back to playable to allow us to play on it again. not to mention any time there is an update we are such an after thought a year down the road were still waiting on it
