Interesting to hear you mention taking a 'canopy' instead of your awning. This winter we are off down through Spain to Morocco with our caravan, and as we will be doing mostly 'touring' have likewise decided to leave our awning (Kampa Rally Air Pro 390) at home. We are taking a lightweight Sunncamp Swift 220 porch awning (about £150.00 new) and an Isabella Shadow 500 sun canopy (£240.00). The sun canopy will go up in less than 5 minutes so is great for a stop of a couple of days. Four a couple of months at a site in Portugal we will use the Sunncamp.

I'm experienced with Germany, I haven't driven there but been to lots of beer festivals. Important: Do not drink out of the flower pots, a big buxom girl comes and tells you off. But of cause you knew all that, because I can read between the lines so I know you want me to come with you. I've started packing, just need to go buy some skimpy shorts. I don't wear them, I just put them on the washing line so people think I'm thinner than I am.

I don't book sites in Europe, It's only the big coastal sites in France and Spain that get booked up in the summer, most other sites you can just turn up, I know that you don't want any stress but it can be just as stressful trying to keep to a plan and having to drive for longer than you want to make a site in time that you've booked, especially if you've had a delay and have fallen behind schedule, plus not booking gives you the option of following the good weather. I wouldn't leave the dog in the kennels on the ferry, I haven't used the Harwich/Hook of Holland ferry but the "kennels" are usually steel cages lined up in a noisy corridor, not the best environment for a dog. Also for general information , if you ask at the reception at any campsite in Europe they will usually book an appointment for you with the local vet, this gives you a bit of leeway as the 24/120 hour window is pretty critical.
@HereWeTow5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the useful advice and tips, I think Fudge will stay in the car for the journey as it will be quieter for him and he loves being in the car. The vet tip is great, thanks you. We are looking forward to setting off now 👍

Wow! I have been watching some of your videos the last few weeks, since we've been searching for a new caravan. And then I saw this video and am so happy to hear that you guys are on your way to Sweden!! I assume you're not on your way to the north of Sweden, but if you are, you are most welcome! Our family is on our way to the south of Sweden in the summer and if we happen to be somewhere close where you are it would be fun to say hi!

Thanks for watching, we are travelling about half way up the east coast and then cutting across to the west and back down. We will be posting where we are so please let us know if we are near you in August👍

The Dutch are doing checks on UK vans to see if you are not just passing the break away cable just over the tow bar these must pass through a pigtail then back on it's self we have got a pigtail so I use a carabineer through a eyelet and pass the cable through this to comply with the rules.
@HereWeTow5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ray..good advice, with ours being a detachable tow bar we do connect up underneath in the eyelet 👍

You need to be careful in Germany, if you need to cross the river reihn on you way, a lot of bridges are under construction and you are not allowed to cross if you are over 3,5 metric tons. Have a great trip. Denmark has many wonderful campsites. Greatings from the German just being in Leeds and heading to Inverness tomorrow.

Thanks Simone, hope you enjoyed Leeds, its very busy but lots to see, Im sure you will love Scotland. We will check the route for a river crossing, thanks for the advice 😊

We've towed from Aberdeen to Portsmouth for last couple of years and got the overnight ferry to st malo and stay on the same site in Brittany. Previously did the ferry from Dover to Calais/Dunkirque and stayed between Soissons and Compiegne north of Paris. Would love to go further afield but if you include the tow from Aberdeen, it can add 2 days to the hols already. However, would love to explore more of Europe in time 😊 Enjoy your trip!
@HereWeTow5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Melanie, yes Aberdeen is a long way north, even to us, we considered going from Hull but Harwich was a lot cheaper. Enjoy your future travels 👍

Hi, did you consider Newcastle to Amsterdam? Longer crossing but if you are based in the North of the UK, a good option. If you get the chance Belgium is a wonderful country and very quiet. Lastly as far as warm weather is concerned, Scandinavia can get very warm as well. I visited Oslo in June a few years ago and it was over 90 degrees. Enjoy your trip.
@HereWeTow5 жыл бұрын
Thanks David, we are heading off from theMidlands so Harwich was convenient for this trip but Newcastle and Hull would have been on the list if we were going from home. Thanks for watching and commenting, we are looking forward to it. We have been through Belgium a few years ago when we drove to Germany in our car, not thought about going back, but now you mention it...maybe one for future depending on how this trip goes.

Hi, does fudge have to stay in the car on the ferry? Or are you able to take him on deck with you?
@HereWeTow5 жыл бұрын
Fudge can either go in the kennels on board or stay in the car. We will leave him in the car, he will be happy there. Some Ferry crossings have pet friendly cabins for longer journeys. 🐶

Hi Karina, "Best laid plans" and all that. I hope you have left some wiggle room in to your itinerary. If you had planned a one or two stop journey, then your "plan" would probably be fine. Remember the more "planning " the greater the chance of Murphy's Law. I hope all goes well, I will be keeping an eye on you; sorry I don't mean to sound like big bruv; have a great trip.

Make sure you have some cash for Holland. Many shops don’t take credit cards. They seem to favour the Maestro card. Will you be going on an overnight ferry Karina?
@HereWeTow5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dawn, we will make sure we have some cash..we are taking the day ferry on both crossings.
@dawnallard68415 жыл бұрын
Here we Tow We usually stay in a CL just up the road when using this route. Or you can overnight at the ferry port. It’s worth getting a day cabin too, the club ones have a kettle and nibbles etc. then we take our own food rather than spend on the over priced food in the restaurant.
