we stop in mom and pops for two reasons. one: more of the money we spend ends up in the local community. second: sometimes the food might be mediocre, but sometimes the food is amazing. my favorite thing to do at a local restaurant is to tell the waiter/manager/owner my general likes and have them order for me. sometimes I'll get something that isn't even on the menu. safe travels.

I was going to say, going to Oshkosh an touring motorcycle is the second best thing to flying there. But I guess in many ways it is even better. You have more time to enjoy the scenery, you don't have to deal with the stress of the huge pile-up on the air arrival. Either way, I envy you and all the lucky people flying there. It's going to be a great few weeks.

I am in Wisconsin south of Oshkosh, many planes of all types heading north fly overhead (very cool), We have a small air port near by which hosts a lot of refueling. The "EAA Fly-in" Oshkosh event should be a bucket list item for most everyone following this channel, It is truely amazing.

Fond du Lac? In 2019, My friend the Sabre pilot bought a flight hour for his crew chief (also a pilot) to fly a P-40 Warhawk there. Pretty sure I'll be passing through...

Have a great trip. I guess the USA / Canada border is open again? Very smart avoiding the interstates and large cities. I am a storm chaser and have that same mentality. Always eat and stay at the local "mom and pop" places, supporting the rural economy in middle-America and not dealing with "cheezy" tourist traps nor the corruption of large cities. The local / secondary roads is always a scenic and great choice. Interstates are only when you are in a hurry with a car load of screaming kids and an impatient wife or spouse :) Have a great trip there!

We are headed home to Anchorage, so it is "essential travel" lots of 10 hour days, and minimal interaction with the Canadians as per the rules. Someday I'd sure love to have the chance to meet you and personally deliver a flag to your shop. I have learned so much about jet engines from your videos over the years!

Have a great trip - and stay safe. My son and I are off to the North of Scotland for a few days next month - Covid permitting. We're hiring a Caterham 7 (he calls it a 2-seat go-cart) for 3 days while we are there. We'll cover nowhere near the distances that you will, but this emphasises just how big North America is, compared to this little island. PS We intend to break our journey, starting on the south coast of England, somewhere near Glasgow and Edinburgh, after 7 hrs of driving, traffic permitting. another 3 hrs of driving the next day should take us to our destination, a total road distance of 635 miles. However, traffic conditions today (23 July) would result in a total driving time of over 12 hrs. That's because schools are out for the summer in England this week.

Excellent route choice. If you can spare the time & miles on the way down, or if you're looking for a different route home then I strongly recommend swinging through Dead Indian Pass in Wyoming. That will point you towards US-14 and/or US-16 across WY, then US-16 on through the Black Hills to Rapid City. One of my favorite routes when I'm going out west.
