What are the things to be kept in mind while planning?

Hello Rahul and thanks for your question. It is important to remain focused on the "What and How". For eg, In a Maintainance context, we would consider two things. (1) What is needed to be completed from the Maintenance Plan(s) AND (2) any maintenance task that is in deficit? (Wasn't completed previously) Planning would then consider How to fit the work in. E.g Is the maintenance work routine, corrective or perhaps major replacement that is best delivered during a planned shutdown? This top-down approach separates Scheduling and Resource Management which can sometimes "blur" better judgment in the Planning function. Good Planning will have Subject Matter Experts in the environment they are working and in the function/discipline, they are planning for (eg Electrical, Mechanical, Hydraulic, Chemical). If possible I would also add in a representative from Procurement and Engineering as Planning needs to consider lead times of materials, obsolescence and supporting equipment to perform the work. (Cranes for lifting, Jigs, Alignment, Sensors, Safety, Ergonomics, confined spaces and working at heights). I hope this helps answer your question. Martin
