Project scheduling is defined in detail using the Critical Path Method. Ed March, Co-Director of the MEM Program at Dartmouth, illustrates the use of the early start Gantt Chart with the Backward Pass Method. Total Slack and Critical Path Activities of the Gantt Chart are defined. Additional Gantt Chart functions, including Bottom-Up Budgeting and Staffing Profiles, are considered.

I am not a student in this class but I really love the way this instructor explains this process. It is much less complicated than other CP methods I have seen. I do not have the benefit of the book he refers to explain the backwards pass. If you have time, I would really love to see the backwards pass or be referred to a resource for the backwards pass method for this video. Is that possible?

How are project artifacts that are occur repetitively and stay with the project from planning to closing incorporated in the schedule and network diagramming? Examples include stakeholder engagement, monitoring and controlling, project document updates. All such activities involve time and expense so they need to be assigned resources and be elements of of both the schedule and network diagrams. If they are not included, we will always be under budget and over time. But they don't have discrete start and finish dates.

The artifacts listed are responsibilities of the project manager, and as you stated are performed over the entire duration of the project. A simple way to depict these responsibilities for project costing is in the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). Create an item in the WBS called Project Management. Cascading below this level specify sub-levels (1) stakeholder engagement (2) monitor and control (3) documentation (4) change management. Create another sub-level called “documentation updates” that cascades below “documentation” and “change management”, since these updates are common to both responsibilities. Resources and budget may be assigned to each on these project management levels created in the WBS. In the project schedule or Gantt chart include one line labeled “project management” that extends from the beginning to end of the project. If there are specific deadlines for project reports, identify these as milestones on the “project management” path. This is an easy way to depict project management responsibilities in the schedule.

Activity D does not have a successor. How does that fit into the schedule? Because in every schedule, only the first activity is permitted not to have a predecessor and only the last activity is supposed not to have a successor. So what is the explanation here? I will like to see your response to that question, please.

Hi, just a question. how could activity F be moved with out delaying the project? (it was mentioned in time around 10:08). or Maybe this is just example.
@ThayerSchool
@ThayerSchool 8 жыл бұрын
+jerome cruz Activity F can be delayed because it has a total slack value of 2 months. This value was calculated using the forward and backward pass methods demonstrated in the video. Because of the total slack activity F can be delayed up to 2 months without affecting the completion time of the project. If the total slack of Activity F were 0, it would be a critical path activity and any delay in its completion will extend the completion time of the entire project.

Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "what are the five stages of project management?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Biycarlett Astounded Builder - (do a search on google ) ? It is a great exclusive guide for discovering how to download thousands of business and project management templates minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my friend got amazing success with it.

It’s brilliant. Place a glass wall between u and the camera. Write and talk like you are talking to that glass wall. But the poor camera picks up all this in a reverse view, but this smart man then simply flips the video to correct in his post production. Noticed his pocket side goes to the left.?

Greetings sir. I have a question. The understanding from gantt chat to activity table is quite different. For example a task A take 0-2nd week and task B takes 4th-5th week while task C takes 7th-9th week on the gantt chart. But on the gant, there is an arrow linking only task A directly to task C. What do you say about the dependences of task B and C on the table?
