I’m so excited to see an urban gardener in my zone and close to where I live.

I love the way you're using the "Cage Baby" this year! Hanging baskets is a brilliant way to use that space along with tucking away the GreenStalk! The angle of the camera makes it look like you are in a private garden center...which I guess you are. Thanks for sharing B!

Thanks so much for watching and commenting. This year has been so different than others for the cage baby and I've enjoyed switching it up! #privategardencenter 😊😊

Great video! At 15:40, you demonstrate protecting the tomatoes “as they ripen” with your DIY shade cloth. Just in case you don’t know this already, tomatoes don’t have to fully ripen on the vine. You can pick them once you notice that first slight “blush” of color…then let them ripen inside your house. That way, you can eliminate any potential nibbling from vermin without sacrificing any flavor.

I couldn't agree more! I try to pick them once they start blushing but it's not uncommon for me to get tied up and not get to them soon enough.

I so enjoy listening to you and “young Ben”😁 I have been gardening a while and just love learning from others. I’m in north Mississippi, now zone 8. Just started a late crop of summer squash and I have late purple hull peas starting to bloom. I have broccoli and cabbage started in trays. Can’t wait to set them out.

Heya Becky! Thanks for listening to the pod, so great to hear you enjoy it. And I just love to hear folks talk about late season crops this time of year. I start to live more vicariously through y'all😊💚.

Between growing in brand new soil, and the constant rain in my area this summer, a few of my tomato plants had no chance with the blossom end rot! I will say though, I started growing tomato plants in new soil a few years ago and then I compost the entire plant into the soil at the end of the summer along with other amendments. By spring the soil is much healthier from all the green compost. I just don’t expect an actual harvest. That darn new soil though, they are all so sterile now and have so little nutrition!

Yeah, it seems to be a gamble with some of the new soil. For most plants in garden, they don’t have time to break down in the soil before the soil freezes so if I leave them, I’m just pulling the roots out next spring.

Thanks sharing. Sitting table going thru seeds putting away and organizing. Plans for fall. Started some. Plant sow some outside in trays and few inside. Sometimes get lazy want start inside but what I do once they germinate place them out and they do well in shade. Have little green house btu gets hot even with shade cloth. Have some in shade cover with netting because those darn squirrels always where they should not be , cannot trust they will behave. Thanks sharing take care.

Great plan! I have some collards indoors (that was more to see if they would grow in a different areas in my house). The ones that were outside have gotten eaten up by cabbage worms 🥹.

👋🏾 hi! Have you heard of vegan gardening? I am wondering how many vegetarians and vegans realize when they eat vegetables they were grown with bone meal or blood meal. Seaweed fertilizer seems like a good alternative!
@BBettaGarden3 ай бұрын
Heya! I don't think I've heard it referenced as vegan gardening, but I've definitely heard of folks talking about using alternatives because they don't want to use animal bi-products in their gardens.
