Planning where to spend the WINTER months on my CANAL BOAT [Ep 130]

Unable to start my engine as my service isn't finished yet. Fellow boaters come to my aid and tow my Narrowboat across the canal to the towpath. I take my little rescue dog Bonny to Pets at Home to get some winter gear and once my engine is up and running I start my cruise back up North to avoid all the winter stoppages. This takes me to Fradley Junction where I leave the Coventry Canal and turn left back onto the Trent & Mersey Canal and up the canal locks there. After an 8 hour cruise I moor at Handsacre and enjoy the local food - Fish, Chips and mushy peas.

FYI..... Thought I would finally chime in. I enjoy your channel. Dog behavior!!!! Dogs are very good at reading body language. Reading other dogs, but also in their masters. SO.... when "you" see another dog on the tow path and get a little nervous, Bonnie reads that and tries to "protect you" by guarding her territory. What you should try, when you see another dog, start exclaiming things like "Oh such a beautiful dog" or some other praise to the other dog or owner, "Your dog looks so nice". All positive vocals. Bonnie will read that you're comfortable and not get protective.

Yes, that’s why I’ve been working with a trainer / behaviourist as shown in previous videos …hopefully you can see the progress that has been made up to now ….. unfortunately for Bonny she is 3 and hasn’t been socialised - so either freezes, shakes or launches and barks at big dogs .. I’ve tried to show the progress as we have been going along …. She isn’t protecting, and she does it with other people when walking her inc experienced dog walkers, not just me … in the last training session and her recent exercises we have been trying to engage in conversations with other dog walkers and shown her progressing, however towpaths are very narrow and Bonny just gets overwhelmed and flooded if lots of dogs …. As mentioned previously it’s going to take a long time but I’m hoping you have seen the progress made 😃

I have a long haired miniature dachshund call Arthur and to keep him warm we use kiddies tops and jumpers, a lot cheaper the clothes at Pets for You. He has several jumpers and t-shirts which are so easy to wash and dry. Love your blogs, keep them coming.

A great way to have Bonnie acclimate to other dogs is to frequent an off-leash dog park.

I’ve shown this in previous videos and the reasons why I can’t let her off with dogs she doesn’t know after she ran up to a random dog head butted and they got into a fight and Bonny got bit on the nose …. She hasn’t got the social skills when greeting other dogs just yet but we are working on building up her skills all the time … she is 3 and I’ve only had her 4 months .. she has come on so much but still a long way to go

Hi Heidi from your old mate here in the dead center of Australia as we head for our summer, love your show and wish we could have some of your rivers and canals our nearest river is over 1000 km away. our temp ranges from 34c to 46c over the next few months with a few million flies to keep us company plus a few snakes and spiders to keep us on our toes, I would give anything to swap places right now and I almost forgot the friendly million of mosquitoes that visit every night during the summer months. Boaters are the best! Lots of people are great, but seems to me that boaters will help out mostly any time they can, no matter the person needing help. Not that you are ordinarily a person needing help, but well, you know, don't be rude! 🙂 I checked out the 2023 Huddleston Heritage Gathering website, and find photos of YOU (and Nikki!) there. Somehow, I thought I saw a photo of Joan Armatrading playing/singing there, but now I can't find that photo. Hope she was there, tho that's not her type of venue ... and yet I hope she is still playing. Her music sure was part of my youth. I hear she's now married and in England. Ahoy there to the canal pirate! One of our boating communities greatest is being evicted from his own boat in a couple of wks. I'm getting together a rag-tag bunch of misfits to join the charge against CRT to stop them targeting vulnerable boaters! Another gem, another days delight. I can, can can all the way to heaven but would miss out on the narrow boat canal adventure of the Pirate Heidi and her first mate Bonnie the Frenchi sized pit bull Uuoooaaah! They make their way to escape the south heading north to winter heaven where all the pirates take their booty home. The fish and chips and mushy peas give strength to seek the comforting soul foods of pirate haven, all washed down with choice gin or rum in the poets corner in the back passage. Heidi surely beats the pirate drums of love and freedom with her musical talents sounding in the background. I guess I wondered lonely as a cloud as I landed at Robbers Roost with a horse and not a 🚢 but I still❤ you pirates all the same. Have a beautiful week. Lots of ❤ from Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch! Mixed grill from the chippy. That sounded good. “I’ll have a Mixed Grill please.” Problem was, I wasn’t in Suffolk or Essex anymore. I was in North Wales. Mushy with brown gravy on top of my food. Could have been worse. Only ketchup here in the US. Then was asked if I wanted salt and vinegar. “I usually put that only on top o my chips. Southern thing I suppose. No thank you. Fine as is.” Note to self, tell them to hold up on the peas and gravy next time.
