You should isolate the plants that have the mealy bugs & try bottom watering for a while to keep the top of the soil dry. The mealy bugs travel, so you may want to separate the plants that are in contact with it. (Also, maybe keep an eye out for cross-contamination from the watering can?) I lost a beautiful jade plant because I could not get ride of the mealy bugs. Good luck! 🌱🌿

Julien I fricking love plant content. Can I share stuff about Calatheas? I'm obsessed with them because they're so sensitive yet so simple. They hate direct sun as they burn easily, they like humidity, a moist topsoil but (not over moisty) and also need filtered water. If you keep a few of them together they can create their own humid environment. You can also just mist the leaves (you will have to gently rub them down occasionally after this as they get water marked) or leave a tub of water nearby to create humidity for them. Once the leaves start curling you know its unhappy and it can quickly die as the plant is wasting so much energy on the curling. But it can be easily fixed by finding out which thing is causing the curling! I believe in youuu!♥

@emily26912 жыл бұрын
@@privateemail9755 Isn't that the purpose of a systemic pesticide?
@ohrats7312 жыл бұрын
Gnats are kind of part of plant life. Boiling soil is a nuisance and won’t stop gnats from coming in later and colonizing. They can be minimized with neem oil spray and sticky gnat traps. Test neem oil on part of you plant before full use incase your plant reacts poorly. Avoid sticky traps if you have a curious pet like a cat or whatever. If gnats are a deal breaker for you, get only cactuses, succulents, or other plants that want to dry out between waterings. I’ve never had larger flies living in my plants so I don’t think that’s a worry. Do a lot of research before picking a pesticide as they can be hazardous to you and your pets when used indoors. Happy planting! ☺️

Julien, try your hand at some IPM for your pest problem. "Integrated Pest Management" encourages very little to no chemical intervention. The idea is to have healthy cultural practices paired with natural pesticides. For example, understanding how overwatering can lead to root rot, fungus, moisture loving pests. There are many at home remedies for pests as well as natural options out there like horticulture oils, vinegars & sprays. If you have a compost, making compost tea would be great for your plant health as a foliar spray. Also consider this: most plants like to dry between waterings because not only do plants need water to absorb nutrients from the soil, but they also need oxygen. A perpetually wet or moist plant will prevent the oxygen uptake into the roots! [if you know this already cool! just thought I'd offer some tips after seeing your mealy buggo problem + I hope you figure it out!] Also, I think your alocasia needs a humidifier as well + those babies can die fast if they are over watered.
