Love California poppies! 🌼 Not only am I from California & enjoy the natural “super blooms” we have, but they hold a special meaning for me… It was one of the first flowers I planted for my grandfather before he passed. I had just started gardening with him as walking & bending over slowly became too difficult. When they finally bloomed he loved them so much that he asked if I had any more seeds for the front yard so neighbors could enjoy them too! Now I plant them every year. ☺️ As always, thanks for the great videos!

Ps. Not sure if the comment/giveaway is randomized, but please gift to others & not to me!… I collect the seeds after each spring. Let others get a pack of these beautiful flowers. 🧡

I'm a native San Diegan who now lives in Arizona. My dad and I grew poppies together when I was a little girl. Spring is when I miss San Diego the most because I don't get to see the hillsides covered in wildflowers anymore. Traffic was always a little nice to be stuck in if you have something pretty to look at. 💜

Hope you are doing well. I have had poppies as volunteer plants for a number of years now. I think they are an Iceland Poppy, that does not grow too tall but shows a nice reddish-pinky bloom. My mother taught me how to make Iceland poppies (Papaver) last in a vase. Before putting them in water, hold the end of the stem over a flame like a gas burner until the end singes a bit. That will seal the moisture into the stem and it will last for about a week. Weird but it works!

I'm not a gardner, but I have a question about poppies anyhow. We know that the ancient Assyrians grew poppies and we have images of what might be poppy plants in Assyrian wall art, but it looks like they are being grown on a sort of a trellis, almost like a vine plant. How flexible are poppy stems when they are being grown?
@SanDiegoSeedCompany Жыл бұрын
There are about 250 species of poppies. Specifically for California Golden Poppies, the stems can be at least several inches long (even about a foot) and are flexible. Others may grow to be longer, though.
@templeofenki5227 Жыл бұрын
@@SanDiegoSeedCompany Thank you for the information. The one native to Ancient Assyria is Papaver Somniferum (Bread Poppy) and photographs of it seem to show it having a rather flexible stem, but not so much that it is vine like. The California poppy appears to be Eschscholzia Californica.
