Hi! Benji, I am so happy that you introduce Japanese plants shop and our love of nature. I came from Japan to LA, who is struggling with growing some of the trees and plants naturally grown in Japan. My dream is to successfully decorate my house with these plants and see you to introduce them ! With lots of love !

The plant at 9:13 is sold as Philodendron sp. 'Papua New Guinea', ADA produces it in tissue culture under their jungle plants line but I'm not sure if its available outside of Japan. Ive also heard that its actually an Epipremnum. It's hard to find English language videos of the ADA Lab stuff, so thanks for the tour!

To me it looks like a green epipremnum amplissimum or falcifolium

looks very similar to epipremnum amplissum without silver streaking. Makes sense to use it in an aquarium because Pothos grow great anywhere with enough nutrients, light, and structural support. If you can’t get philodendron New Guinea, amplissum would be a good alternative. I have one and it’s super easy to care for and grows like a weed. Really does like to climb though.

I actually still watch your vietnam vlogs all the time 😅 can’t wait for whatever you decide to share with us nexttt🤍

What an absolute treat it is to see inside of these amazing shops! I've watched a few KZbinrs who have shown some of them from the outside and I've paused and tried to see inside so desperately! I'm in love with the unique plants and ways of displaying them in Japan, a true art form. Those first two shops and that kokedama brachychiton are just so beautiful. Inspiring 🌟🌱

Such beautiful plant shops . I love their concept of plants as art. I’ve often dreamed of having a boutique shop that had beautifully designed plant arrangements and a little coffee shop inside as well. We have one breakfast place that has an inner courtyard filled with plants all around , and it’s very nice to have a table there but it still doesn’t come close to the botanical artistry that you showed us in Japan . Now I know what to research . I would like to create something as stunning as that tree growing in a moss ball on a rock!

The carnivorous plant display was so fantastic! You could easily grow some Butterworts (Pinguiculas) and Sundews (Drosera) in California. The butterworts catch the really tiny gnats and flies on their plump sticky leaves. Drosera, especially ones with red coloration, display beautifully in sunlight. Except for needing to water with distilled water or rainwater and using sphagnum moss these carnivorous plants are not too difficult to maintain even in Southern California.

You’re right about SoCal, our climate being slightly too dry for kokedama… true, but it depends what you put in it. If it’s something thirsty, like a begonia, fern, or something tropical, they likely can’t be hanging as a kokedama, too much evaporation… instead, you have to maybe display them strategically on a tray of pebbles w water, elevated slightly, almost “semi hydro” in a sense; the moss wicks up the moisture… But anyway, my most successful Kokedama, depending on the species, have been in indirect bright light or partial shade - the species I’ve had thrive in it have been Peperomia, smaller bromeliads (Neoregelia, Guzmania), Phaelanopsis & Oncidium orchids, Rhipsalis, Schlumbergera (Xmas cactus), Hatiora (bottle cactus), Disocactus (hanging rat tail) & generally most types of jungle cacti. The environment, the drainage and water retention is great for them. Not to forget, hanging type succulents are a great kokedama choice for SoCal, or anywhere….I’ve done them all in kokedama 😎 Crassula perforata and its many hybrids are good, Sedums, donkey tail, surprisingly, most succulents don’t want hot sun either, and can burn 😝

It must be the places where you shop. There are places with loud music being blasted, but there are also many shops where the volume is restrained and what's heard is calm/complimentary to the place. Perhaps seek more boutiques and locally owned establishments. :)
