I thought I would never find a platycerium ever but I was in this random plant store looking for hanging pots, my mom pointed at some random succulents and right next to is was a platy! If she hadn't pointed it out I would've looked past it 😅 Of course I bought it and now I'm waiting for sphagnum moss to come in the mail (which is surprisingly hard to find where I live). I've never been so excited for MOSS to come in the mail 😂

I love your taste in plants and their containers. I love the unusual and displaying them. Here in New Zealand we don't have as many of the unusual ones but now houseplants are becoming such a thing, we are getting a better selection. Thank you

in Australia the asparagus ferns are a weed (several species), mostly in bushland (so sheltered by a bit of a canopy). They're everywhere near where I live and very difficult to manage because of their underground rhizomes. Most of us live on the east coast which is mostly bushland/beaches/rainforests (tropical to temperate climates). Don't think the asparagus fern would survive in our deserts/arid regions (unless near water/shade).
@matildap33582 жыл бұрын
Yeah asparagus ferns are the worst. So hard to get rid of and covered in little spikes that poke you if you try. I cannot get them out of my yard, and they're all through the rainforests too.

the Staghorn and Elkhorn ferns are quite common in Australia and many people grow them on trees in their yards. When I lived in Los Angeles I also grew mine outside on fern bark and fed them banana skins that made them grow so fast. I love these plants.

asparagus fern is also invasive in New Zealand ! I believe it thrives the most in our sparse forest areas, bushland & coastlands.... which get lots and lots of dappled light, not too much water & not much nutrients either.. I believe most people struggle with them because they don't give them enough light and also overwater their sensitive tubers! And: they're in the lily family, not ferns. We have lots and lots of invasive lilies in same biomes that in other places are considered nice garden pieces- like canna, arum, agapanthus so maybe the trick is treating it like them.

They’re definitely on the invasive species list on the east coast, you can still get them but they’re not big faves atm. Probably cause everyone in the 80’s went berserk with these and they got out into bushland/rainforest everywhere on the coast🤔They’re absolutely gorgeous tho…

Hello Benji! Enjoyed the video and wanted to comment about the Dioscorea elephantipes. I have several of these cuties growing outside, some growing under full sun and one of them growing in a covered area. These are desert plants, so they thrive in dry and harsh conditions. I have noticed the plants that are growing under full sun tend to produce relatively shorter stems and the leaves on them seem to open faster. In contrast, the plant that is under the covered area produces way longer stems (like yours) and leaves tend to remain closed for a longer period. I have to set a wire frame for it to support itself otherwise it starts hooking into other plants. A little sneaky, but I love these! :) Happy growing!

I love the look and style of your collection ❤️Also I never knew Homalomena was aquatic! Or semi-riparian whatever. I'm sure you know, but there are some really great aroid plants for aquatic setups - Anubias is obviously the most popular, I'd say. My mind is kinda blown; I knew Anubias were aroids, since they resemble tiny, aquatic monstera... but I just learned that bucephalandra & cryptocoryne are part of Araceae too? What! Never saw the flowers so I wouldn't have guessed. Makes me mad kinda, now discovering these are aroids, bc I sold my aquarium a few years ago - for fear of humidity damage in my house🤤🤣 I had like ten different types of Anubias (coffeefolia, nana, Snow White, petite, azerilia?). Also had cryptocoryne wendtii, lutea, spiralis, and more. Guess that hobby/obsession is coming back now. 😑😭 thanks for the inspiration!
