Water your garden when the sun is down for the day. Or really early in the morning before the sun is up. It helps prevent the sun from “frying” your plants! ❤️

Keep a gardening journal! (I type this as I am watching your video so maybe you mentioned it) It is very helpful to look back on things. I include everything possible in my journal. How much I harvest, if there are any bugs or disease, general observations. Also clean your clippers as you harvest between plants to make sure you don't spread disease. You can use rubbing alcohol. I don't like tomato cages as they dig into the plant. I prefer to use stakes. Lastly, keep a basket with you when you go to the garden full of twine, your gloves, shears, paper towels, etc. Keep us posted! Can't wait to see your progress!

Oh and I highly recommend the youtube channel, "Garden Answer". I used her tips a lot last year when I started my garden for the first time!

Also look up buddy plants often plants grow better with certain plants, and when your tomatoes have over 6-8 leaves pinch the top of the plant off to increase growth outwards rather then up if that makes sense 😅

If you see those multiple sprouts in your squash and cucumber plant pots, those are actually multiple plants. So it looked like you have wayyyy more than 3 squash 😅😂

Also soil is the most important thing to a thriving garden. I wouldn’t recommend using topsoil for vegetables because they like as much nutrients as possible. So I would fertilize and like other commenter said, add compost on top to give plants something to feed on. But it turned out so pretty! Gardening is a learning experience and it’s fun! “Epic Gardening” is a great channel for quick tips!

I love gardening! I had a blackberry invasion one year with my hydrangea's and roses. So thankfully you didn't have to deal with that. We had to put lining down to smother all our other plants growing. We ended up with Delia's and lilies. It was hard work, but I loved watching it thrive everyday. I hope we get good weather in washington so I can go get my plants for the year haha.

Just a suggestion from an avid gardner. I would use larger rebar or even T-posts for the trellises, and I would use compost instead of top soil for amending the soil for your veggies ❤️❤️ Looks beautiful ❤️

You did such a great job!! I found your channel through pregnancy related videos, so I thought I'd chime in and say that my Dr. told me that it's easiest to get toxoplasmosis not just through changing cat litter, but from herbs, fruits and vegetables from your garden and animals dropping by them - most documented cases, that's what it's from! So I very recently got into how to clean fruits and vegetables as thoroughly as possible :)

What about a tiller? We have a spot in our backyard that’s similar to where you planted and tilling the soil would probably make a world of difference. Sometimes that rocky, old, root bound soil needs a bit of mixing to soften and loosen it up.

You got this! It is a learning experience for sure, just keep good notes and do a lot of research. There will be failures and successes! I started my first garden last year and it was so fun and rewarding. I also started with plant starters, less intimidating than seeds. I will switch when I am more comfortable in the garden!

So cute! I recommend adding some compost to your soil. Since you've already planted, you can just top dress it and work it in an inch or two gently with your fingers. Veggies require a lot of nutrients, and top soil isn't meant to provide the amount of food that veggies need to produce. Also, landscape fabric can prevent nutrients from decomposing leaves from getting into the soil under the landscape fabric, so you probably have to amend your soil with compost anyway. There are a lot of compost options at the store. If you want to go organic, Espoma Land and Sea compost is good, but Espoma is pretty pricey. I like mushroom compost because it's pretty cheap but has a good amount of nutrients and I think is a good compost for beginner gardeners! Did you see any worms in your soil? If you did, that's a good sign! If you didn't, that means you definitely compost! I just pulled up years old landscape fabric from my front flower bed and the soil was in really rough shape so I'm amending with mushroom compost! Good luck!

so exciting! i'm also working on my first garden after living in an apartment. so much fun! not really any tips yet, but finding that things are growing much better in the ground than on pots on the balcony as I previously did which is nice. I guess something I've learnt so far especially for flowerbeds, is to try and get evergreen ground cover plants too so it's not completely bare in winter. I've been planting anemone bulbs too which I'm excited for. and won't be long before you can do autumn planting bulbs like tulips and daffodils!

my only true tip is that you should look into what kinds of plants don't like to be next to each other, because that really makes a difference. Other than that, I'd say get whatever you want to eat, do what makes you happy, it always worked out for us and we never put much research into it. Well, except for one year when we were befallen by a zucchini curse and somehow had five ginourmous zucchinis that needed to be taken every single day all summer and our entire big freezer was exclusively filled with zucchini, we had to eat it every single day and we gave zucchinis to all our friends everytime we saw them and like to everyone lmao it was exciting for a couple days but then we had all these zucchinis All Summer. Also you totally should get grapes for the brick wall, there's sorts that like to climb and be along walls, and they are so tasty and pretty, too!! and totally safe for babies since I assume there'll be lawn that Ro-Ro will play on down there. Oh and also, don't water while the sun is burning down, water in the evening or early morning or the water combined with the sun will totally fry your plants

Since you’re planting grass from seed, you might consider Fleur de Lawn!! It’s a lot more magical (hello cottagecore) with daisies and clovers and drought tolerant grasses, plus added benefit it is much better for the environment than a monocrop of grass!

@@MeganAcuna I totally winged it and just bought a ton of plants! I also transplanted a ton from my parents and what I already had. I did try to pay attention to what amounts of sunlight each needs and plant accordingly. Mint has been the easiest because it grows like a weed. I only managed to kill mums which I tried to keep alive through the winter indoors and they never took when I planted them. The dog also dug them up so that didn’t help matters 🤣 Now indoor plants I kill like crazy 🤣
