I love gardening. It’s truly my therapy. I am doing a strawberry grow brag with holes this year. I can’t wait. I hate insects and bugs. It made my skin crawl to see you pick up the slug lol.

CaliKim, thanks for always being so enthusiastic and informative! I love your videos, and all the gardening education I get. You mention the worm castings and tea and other things you do that help your growing beauties, but would you consider a video that covers several things you have tried that did not prove to be as productive or that you personally just didn't really like using? Thanks again!!

I would love to turn a pallet into a vertical garden! Perhaps a nice idea to show in a video here as well? You can grow herbs in it, and probably lettuce and strawberries too.

Hello Sushy - thanks for the suggestion - thats a great one for the garden projects list - and maybe a video series. Appreciate you stopping by!

Everything is looking great. I'm envious as someone left the tall and wide deep freezer door WIDE OPEN here. Forgot about the crate towers as they are a crate idea for several indoor veggie starts I (lettuce of course but I have bell peppers, cherry tomatoes too) have. Currently, they are in two soon to become three portable clothes closets as grow rooms in my apartment. Just have to figure out how to get grow lights on them.

You gave me a great idea. have many of these on a slow spinning base (say 5rpm ish) with a tiny motor but with a rigid pole inside a pipe going through all of them. ontop of the pole is a small solar panel which powers the tiny motor to turn the base. that way all 360 degrees of the crate or barrel should get an equal amount of sunlight.

How is the water getting down to the second & 3rd crates. Also, why do you typically not put any plants in the bottom tower but yet you put soil ?

Hello Celine - glad you liked it, looking forward to harvesting a ton of lettuce from this small space - any plans to have a crate tower of some kind in your garden? Here in CA, I'll start my warm weather seedlings indoors in about 3-4 weeks. Cool weather veggies are going strong! Thanks for your kind words - appreciate your support.

i think it would be a little easier if you punched the holes before you start. obviously not if you come back to it like this, but if you are starting a new one, you could make neat holes that line up

I am in No. Calif. and have strawberries called Albion. I was looking for more space and my eyes landed on a nice, sunny spot of fence. I bought an item called Living Wall Planters. I was checking the internet and fount some on houzz.com that are about the amount I paid a couple years ago from another site. They list four for $59.99. They are made from recycled milk bottles. You could grow many different things in them. I wanted strawberries. I also tried to save my bell peppers this year as you suggested. I cut them back and moved to a more sheltered location outside. I packed some dry leaves on top of soil and then placed a bit more soil to hold down the leaves. So far so good. Thanks!

Hello CJ - I love the idea of a Living Wall, I'll check it out! What a great way to plant a lot in a little space! How did your strawberries do in it? Glad the peppers are overwintering, you'll be so glad you put the extra effort into doing this as soon as the weather warms up and you are a jump ahead - let me know how they do! Thanks for watching!

Nice! When in doubt go vertical. I can't tolerate store-bought lettuce. Every time I drive through the Salinas Valley there are aircraft spraying something pretty stinky over the head, romaine and butter lettuce fields. The beautiful heads in the supermarket must be 90% pesticide.
@CaliKim297 жыл бұрын
Hi Big Papi - Yes, vertical is such a space saver! And there's nothing like garden fresh lettuce. Especially when it's growing in your own backyard - you know exactly how you grew it and don't have to worry about pesticides. Thanks for watching !

Are those Empress of India nasturtiums?
@CaliKim297 жыл бұрын
Hello Tim, they are pretty amazing nasturtiums - they reseeded from last year and some of the leaves are as big as a dinner plate. They are not Empress of India - I can't remember the name offhand, I'll try to look up the seed packet and let you know. Not as many flowers as I would like, but hopefully those are coming soon. Do you grow any nasturtiums in your garden?

When do you first plant your lettuce seeds?
@CaliKim297 жыл бұрын
Hi Alice - I try to always have some kind of lettuce or green going. Since our summers (and fall this year) is so hot, lettuce does best here in the winter. I started these seeds indoors about a month ago, but you can also direct seed into your garden during the cooler months, OR grow some salad greens indoors during the very cold or very hot months, kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKPLZoinodyorbM. Let me know how your lettuce does - thanks for watching!

CaliKim29 Garden & Home DIY Thanks. I planted a few varieties of lettuce a once it cooled off but before it got too cold but it never really grew more than a couple inches tall. I kept the soil moist and it got enough sun because it was outside so I don’t know why none of it grew well. This seems to be a constant factor for me in gardening- I can sprout the seeds and they start growing nicely but then when they are still pretty small they suddenly just stop growing and stay that size. It happens with all kinds of veggies and I’ve tried changing the soil multiple times, moving where they are planted, trying planting both in containers and in the ground, watering more or less, but it still happens. I don’t understand why I can’t seem to grow things from seed but if I purchase a veggie plant I can grow that just fine.
