In this video we are updating our large pot with some summer plants. The plants which are features include Rosa 'Nostalgia', Papaver 'Pop Up Yellow', Nemesia 'Coral Kiss', an African Marigold and a low growing white Gaura.
These plants are great for adding some summer colour to a container placed in sunny position.

Great looking pot, Rose is stunning variety and this pot will bloom wonderfully given time. I've done my larger pots similar, a tall feature plant near the back and 3 plants around the front 2/3's as most of my pots will be against a wall so, tall at back. I'm guilty of sometimes over watering and know to use the plants as an indication but thank you for a "memory jogger" and also a reminder to myself to plant all similar water requiring plants in 1 pot, not mix up. Looking forward to seeing this planter in full bloom, thank you, regards, Richy 😀👍

Cheers Richy, we are looking forward to this pot filling out and can’t wait for the rose to flower with that lovely scent. We had to plant most of our pots like that too when we had the courtyard garden. We’ll have to take some cuttings of the Nemesia at some point so we have some to overwinter. Hope you’re weekend is going well 😀 👍

That's a super pot with lovely memories and you've chosen great plants. I must start planting several varieties in the one pot as I usually by habit do a pot full of the same plant. I loved your story about the lady's hanging basket. Things we take for granted aren't always obvious to other people. I gave my sister-in-law some Marigolds and the next time I saw her I said your Calendulas are looking nice and she said I thought you said they were called Marigolds. I've been in my garden this morning and my poor plants have been flattened by the heavy rain and high winds that we had yesterday and the day before. I had to take off the rose heads as they were crumbling which is such a shame as they were looking beautiful a few days ago. Still lots of buds to come thankfully. Are you both planting for any shows this year? xxx

Thanks Wendy, we are pleased with the plants especially the scented Nemesia. We’ll have to take some cuttings of this one and try and overwinter them so we have it for next year too. We were in the garden centre queuing up to pay when this customer came in with her dead hanging basket and we couldn’t stop laughing! The whole store was flabbergasted. Obviously she didn’t get a refund! We think every ones knows things we take for granted but that’s not always the case. It’s been a terrible week with all that rain and wind. To think this time last week we had shorts on and the sun was glorious! Our tall plants have been the same. We’re hoping the sun will come back soon as we still have so much to do. We might end up in the summerhouse pottering if it stays like this all weekend. Rain can damage rose blooms so much but at least there are more buds to follow for you. As far as we know, we haven’t any show planting planned for this year. We've been enjoying the Chelsea coverage but the weather there has been wet too - perfect for the gardens created to highlight how they cope with excessive rainfall but not nice for the others and the visitors. Have a great weekend Wendy xxxx

They do and we're hoping they don't get to this one high up in this tall pot! Wow that's amazing at 1.4m tall. We've never grown or seen marigolds that tall. The centranthus is doing great, thanks 😊

Can't wait to see that pot in full bloom :) The nemesia seems lovely, not available here in this variety but a vanilla scent is always nice; I have heliotrope that came back from last year that also has a vanilla scent :) Question: doesn't the rose get bothered. when you change the plants near it ?

We're really looking forward to seeing and smelling the rose flowers. We are careful when we dig out the old plants and when we put in the new ones and the rose doesn't seem to mind. We've always planted around our roses in pots and never had any problems. We love that vanilla scent. It's such a lovely fragrance. Take care and have a good weekend. 👍

This is just a general question, but I know you will give me a proper answer! Can I plant perennials in June? It always says spring or autumn in the books, as if they will self-combust if planted at other times!
@MadAboutGardening
@MadAboutGardening 21 күн бұрын
Thanks for your question, you can plant perennials at any time of year so long as the ground is not waterlogged (with the exception of perennials that like waterlogged conditions) or frozen. The only thing to be careful of in summer is to make sure the plants are well watered in dry weather until they become established. Don't worry they won't self-combust 😀👍
