How to plant an artificial outdoor fern. Transform your front yard with artificial plants and trees. Learn how planting an artificial outdoor fern can help make your front yard more beautiful while saving money on landscaping and water.
Step 1:
We started with an absolutely blank slate and started laying the artificial stems out where we wanted them to be placed. This is a great method of space planning when you are designing a complete flower bed. Each artificial plant has a sturdy central stem with serrated edges that can easily be inserted directly through the weed barrier and in the ground. Once there, they will stand strong, despite rain, wind, and any other elements they are exposed to. The UV protection will
Step 2:
The ferns were chosen because of the horizontal space that they occupy. I also wanted to add some height to things so after I inserted the fern in the ground, I added three taller sprays directly behind it. The result is a greater contrast of color and texture. I repeated this arrangement four times, staggering them in the flower bed so each of them could be displayed perfectly.
Step 3:
After all of your plants are in place, go ahead and mulch around them to complete the natural look.

😂 It is true! ❤ I was thinking of this since artificial plants are way less maintenance and if you want a full bloom look at any time of year, any climate this would allow that visual.

Any tips on keeping them in the ground so that they don't accidentally come up? The stems don't look that long.

Is this practical in areas with high wind, like Las Vegas? Won't they just blow out of the ground? Any way to mount them into the ground in a stronger way?

I use stones on a bottom level to give it weight. Then dirt over. Make sure to compact the dirt very hard.

I love this. I live in the High Desert in California and we must conserve water. Many have gone to a desert landscape but I want something different. This is perfect! My only question is what happened to the follow up videos? I can’t find them on your channel. Btw, I did Sub to your channel. Loved the video but would like to see the others that go with it.

I live in Henderson Nevada and have a 2 feet area along my house that is filled with rock mulch that you find in our landscaping. I would like to plant shrubs and flowers in this area but would like some info on how to plant them in a soil that is like concrete. I was thinking of potting them in the ground with pots filled with something that would them down in the pots buried in the hard soil here. The area is about 2 foot wide and 20 feet long next to a walkway from the front of the house to the back of the backyard. The area gets shade almost all day because they build houses so close that you can almost touch your neighbors house from your windows.

I lived in Henderson for a short while waaaaaaaaaaaay back when. You could do raised beds. If you can get your hands on railroad ties or something similar, fill with soil and then shade plants that should look really good. Hostas love the shade as well as fern.

One reason would be deer. I can't have any plants because of where I live there are too many deer. They eat everything but cactus. Ugh. I live in Nova Scotia so cactus is out. lol.

Oh just lazy. The deer excuse is a cop out. There are plants your can get which deer won't eat. Artificial plants not only do absolutely nothing for biodiversity but are harmful to the environment. They're produced from plastic and over time emit microplastics which go into the soil and water table. Like artificial grass, they should be banned. Not only that but they're hideous looking.

Also, water conservation. It would seem there are more reasons for than against. As stated above, there is literally no maintenance. They don't attract pests or animals. They don't eat into the water reserves, and they never die.

They die. For years I have spent two to three hundred dollars on evergreens and they die. A year, two years, dead, no matter what I do. So I'm considering faux plants. I have a very small area near the front of the house.
