I don’t know if you noticed, but Janey Santos recently pointed out that one of her new boxwoods was burned by urine from her new puppy. Given that you get a lot of dog walkers past your house, it is probable that your new boxwoods will fall victim to the same fate. Would it make sense to post a sign on the wire fence asking dog owners to curb their pets elsewhere? I don’t think the fence provides any protection from the ammonia spray. Maybe covering the fence with burlap for a while will keep the urine off the plants. Folks do that around here to protect plants from road salt spray in the winter. As an alternative, you could plant a stump or fake fire hydrant in the hell strip to draw the dogs away from your hedge.

I think a sign is a great idea to keep people from allowing their dogs to pee. It would seem like the boxwoods for sure died from pee problems. This happened when my neighbors would let their dogs run around in their front yard and they always ran to the same shrub in my front yard to pee. It was a goner.

I too have sandy soil that I'm constantly amending when I plant. So it is. Your front garden and patio is gorgeous.

I think you need a small sign on your wire fence or on a couple rocks to get dog owners to move past your boxwoods "Wee free please" "Don't pee on me" "Dogs - please don't water our plants"

I was thinking the same thing. It is quite rude for dog owners to let their dogs pee in the gardens of others.

We used to be dog owners, but we were very conscientious about where our male urinated and always picked up after him. I’m so sorry others aren’t realizing what damage their pets are doing or simply don’t care. You may have to line the inside of your fencing to protect your plants. The walkers will still allow the marking to continue, dogs will be dogs. 🇨🇦🌹🇨🇦

Me too... I miss my big dog. Honestly, I think people just don't understand how much it destroys plants so I try to give grace. I haven't thought of lining that fence, but I'm going to think on how I can do it!
