I started my Chayote in March thinking they’ll never sprout. I was so wrong! Mine grew so fast and was about 6 feet last week. I had no choice but to take it out of the green house and plant outside last week. They’re growing so fast now and I’m going to give them a 3 G pruning. Didn’t know that they fruit only in September/ October. Will let you know if they fruit early. Thanks so much for this fantastic video of my favourite vegetable which has so many health benefits as well. Happy gardening 👩‍🌾

My chayote creeper grew so lushy ,it gave only few chayote. How to get more fruits and veggies.as i see your plants & creeper are small and yield more fruits and vegetables.

We’ll just came across this video lots of you might not know ,the NEW Shoots that you get ( there are several on a plant ) from chayote can be cooked ,by frying onions/ garlic chopped up then add water/ a little salt ,clean shoots then chop loosely ,drop in boiling water for 5 minutes to cook . I grow mine for that purpose ,in a pot indoors the bigger the pot the more you get ,similar to vine shoots eating I heard in Greece .I also grow pumpkin for their new shoots ,cook similar all in U.K. Poor man’s diet where I come from .The island of Mauritius ,serve with Cooked Rice and a little chutney of Tomatoes ,not too much chilli 🌶, been Gardening since 1966. In U.K. till 1 July 2023,at the age of 20 yrs old my garden now is thriving ,with everything you can think of from fruits to flowers .Think I will make a U- tube video too .all that wasted knowledge ,cheers fellow gardeners ,. Enjoyed your amateur video ,but good for the young man to start Early in life

I used them in soup, they are firm and don't break up. They take on the flavor of the soup also. I only tried to grow the plant this year. They came out ok but it's October now and I got around 6 small chayote. I think it's a bit cold this year. Will try again next year. Good tips.

Great video guys. I have an allotment near Epsom, Surrey and last year several of our plotholders were growing chayote, which many of us had never heard of before. I was given several fruits and one of them started sprouting. I potted it up, put it on a sunny windowsill (as per your instructions) and it's now producing lots of healthy leaves. I'll plant it out at the end of May after the risk of frosts. I have a large established trellis to grow it up.

I always put slow release fertiliser under the plant and the plants old leaves die.So I'm wrong, I have to put all around the plants.

Hello, Ma Sha Alla. What the direction of the sun it come to the Chayote you planted? I have a west facing garden, with one side of the fence on the shade side, can I plant Chayote there? I guess once it grow tall over the fence , it will have more sun . But before that, will it grow?

I grew Chayoti last year and it grew very well but did not flower or fruit at all. So disappointed. Did you manage to harvest any fruits? My white desi pumpkin was the same. No harvest. Any tips or should we just give up on these fussy vegetables,I wonder.

Most likely because the store bought ones are genetically modified so they grow like crazy but do no fruit , your best bet would be to grow a Chayote from one that has previously been grown in the uk
