keep up the great work. what animals do you hope or plan to have on your homestead? I have learnt that you can make better money and will have a better buyer market for the animals if you have 1 breed rather than mixed.

We actually just ordered our first meat and layer chickens and those will be coming in the next few weeks! And eventually we plan to have lamb and maybe goats but for now introducing one at a time just so we don't overwhelm ourselves. That's a great point- thanks for sharing. Not sure what are goal is in that regard yet- just trying to get our feet wet first!

chickens love alfalfa plus you can harvest dry it for other animals for winter feed and some organic non gmos are cut 3-5 times

Our drain field is in the front yard and have figuring out what to plant that other than grass do you have any information on this project???
@IndyHomestead3 жыл бұрын
We did end up deciding on a final plan for that area! Due to the limited uses of a septic drain field, we opted to use the drain field on our property as reclaimed natural habitat. Last year we sowed a seed mixture containing all prairie plants native to our region. This long in the works project is close to completion so do expect a video showcasing the entire project and its results very soon! We will discuss the process of establishing native habitat from scratch, the benefits of using native plants on a septic field (including research articles), and what NOT to do with your septic field.
