Wow really interesting. We have never planted Miscanthus, always switch grass and have been very happy. This is very interesting, thanks for sharing. Your progress will be very interesting. Bob SWWI

Miscanthus is better for screening because of how thick and tall it gets.

I like how you show the before and after. Most people never show the finished product. Hopefully you show the progress over the next couple of years.👍🏼

Yeah I hate that too. I try and include results in all my food plot and habitat videos.

I’ve got some on the 6th season, each spreg is now a 5’ diameter and 12’ high right now. It’s still going to push out the flower top which adds 2-3’. That will be an impenetrable wall in the future. You can also spray quinclorac for fox tail and it stunts reed canary grass as well

I had some swamp grass in one of my clover plots. Not canary but a clump type of swamp grass and clethodim didn’t touch it. I’ll have to look into quinclorac.

Can you post some links to the herbicides you used on your switchgrass and miscanthus??
@wisconsinwhitetail97446 ай бұрын
Triclopyr 4, works without any harm to grasses. It’s mainly used as a brush killer because it’s stronger than 24D.

Great video I planted that stuff 3 years ago it is already over 10 feet tall but it is Expensive I planted Switchgrass 3 times all different ways no luck and that stuff is not cheap either. When are u going to do so Brassicas videos?
@wisconsinwhitetail97446 ай бұрын
Some of the Miscanthus I planted last yr is 7-8ft right now. Switchgrass can definitely be a challenge to grow. You have to be patient and the better the weed control yr 1, the better the stand will turn out. You definitely don’t want to let the weeds get past the switch it will really struggle in the shade. Brassica videos will be out probably in a month or so. Got most of my brassicas planted the last 2 weekends.

How do you spell that herbicide? Can I use it on first year planted switch?
@wisconsinwhitetail97446 ай бұрын
Triclopyr 4. 2-4 oz on switchgrass or Miscanthus. If your trying to kill brush mix it at 6-8oz per gallon. Yes using it on first yr switch is fine but would wait till it’s at least 6-8in tall just to be safe.

You might try mowing trail through miscanthus parallel to food about 2 feet from field edge & that would encourage deer to bed in miscanthus.
@wisconsinwhitetail97446 ай бұрын
This is going to be a future ground blind spot. I don’t expect or want deer to bed there.

Plant dapple willow instead
@wisconsinwhitetail97446 ай бұрын
Dapple willow loses its leaves. This is primarily going to be a late season or gun blind. I want a supper thick dense wall to completely hide a ground blind.
