I bought 50 ginseng seeds from Lupine Gardens on Etsy for $5. They arrived early March 2020 fully stratified and sprouting taproots. One week in the soil and they are all pushing out of the soil.

Dana Bellefeuille Yes, I have 50 starting last week. I want to buy land one day.... but next year I will pot them so I can do air pruning. So far I have 95% germination inside and 5% outside. Still have 100+ seeds in my refrigerator.... 99% germination.

Hi Paul, will it kill ginseng if you cut the sprouts early in order to deter thieves long enough to make them think it is no longer growing on a particular site? Thanks for the video!
@rockwithface8 жыл бұрын
+yes it will kill the young plants , plant your seed or plants in several locations , this will help too. With disease and theft Franklin Taylor

I think armadillos are getting them this year. There are a lot of holes that are left uncovered and also several dead trees that something did some significant digging yet too small for bears. No tunneling either like it would with moles.I put down a bunch of ground castor beans. Thanks for writing back sir. I am just a ways south of Branson, MO myself. I enjoy your videos.

+Franklin Taylor they need to move south,, the climate is changing before our eyes so plant in several locations to get the varanice we need. It's part of the natural occurance I talk about in my book, kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXXMqJ6ZaJehbLs

I have only limited north, north east and eastern slopes to work with. About an acre and a half to two acres of those particular slopes. Wish it did well on south slopes I have a lot more of that. I remember back in the late 70's the cold and extended snow seasons here where a "snow season " hardly exists for now. It put a major dent in them (armadillos) and unfortunately the road runners here. People found road runners dead in the snow often back then. A colder time for certain then. Could do it again.

Most people cant find it if you stand them in the middle of the patch! If its public land theres nothing you can do to stop them our local reservoir banned all seng digging period because people have no respect 😒😒

If I put the spginsen seed in dirt in the fall,how long will it take to sprout?
@rockwithface2 жыл бұрын
Stratified seed will come up in the spring if planted now, if the seeds are cracked open and starting to germinate, before planting most seed won’t survive the winter.

great video, but why the wood cover?
@rockwithface10 жыл бұрын
It replicates woodland conditions thus protects the seed from harsh winter weather swings, keep the soil moist thru winter, adding a layer off straw will help also. Thanks for watching.

this late in winter/spring depending where you live wait until about on week before last expected freeze and directly plant in the soil about 1/2 deep and water in. be careful not to break the exposed roots off .

woodland soil
@rockwithface7 жыл бұрын
The base soil is woodland soil, as it has no grass seeds

To confirm - you take soil from the ground in the woods. Do you sterilize it in any way?

No need to sterilize the woodland soil, as it contains essential bacteria for plant and seed development

Where did you get the seeds? Do you sell seeds?
@rockwithface8 жыл бұрын
HSU Ginseng has good seed . Actually you can get seed from them now (spring time) and direct plant in the ground or containers. This seed has been cold treated over last winter, thus the germination process has started. The main plus is the seed has not started to crack open like seed held to the fall usually does . Once the seed opens and the root starts growing a freeze will kill it. Just last week , May 21, 2016 I planted a pound of seed from Hsu's . So look them up on the web and call them to order your seed. Thanks for watching .
@DeezNuts-xo2ee5 жыл бұрын
Better check local laws on it we are not allowed to take wild seeds from the woods home here.

I would wager so, it is at the same latitude as New Zealand, Argentina, and Chile, and I know that a lot of invasives from the temperate northern hemisphere grow in all of those areas, as well as red pines and other temperate plants.
