Oh Tony - you don't tell us how to make the hyacinth bulb flower for the second time - have you got the answer to this great mystery. I've just bought some hyacinths from Tesco - they are looking gorgeous. I know when the flower begins to die I need to cut it and then put the remaining bulb and leaves out in the sun - then what do I do. We are always being told 'plant them in the garden and they will grow again' but not very well I've found - how how how does one make them grow again properly. Please please tell me how to make them flower again this time next year. Today is Jan 25. I'm sure I'm not the only person that is trying desperately to keep these bulbs flowering more than once - or is that really not possible. Thanks Liz

Hi Tony, I subscribed to your channel a few months ago, and just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your videos very much. Good camerawork, a pleasant voice and interesting topics. And nice to see what gardening looks like in a place with topsoil. Kudos. Today I am having a litte UKHWG maraton, as we had a storm here in western Norway yesterday and I am procrastinating the best I can before starting up the chainsaw. Trees and branches everywhere. To the point: in the two hours I've been watching, 25-30 new subscribers have joined your channel, so it seems that things have started to kick off for you now. Congratulations, and keep up the good work!

I live in Wisconsin, US, I would like to plant them in the ground, hopefully it will come back year after year. Winter is very cold here and sometimes the temp could reach below zero. Sprint time is about mid March to end of March. Shall I dig the hole about 6 inches deep and put the compost around it and cover them up with garden soil? I have planted a lot of Hyacinth bulbs in the past but don''t see they will come back the next year, if they come back, the flower is only half of the size. I wonder what happens?

Mine never produce nice strong full flower stems but tend to open the buds wedged in the leaves. This year I've bought them already forced with a good roots system in pots, these I've sunk into a large flower pot outdoors. Hoping they do better but I've been told once they have shooted and you can see the fat flower buds you need to keep them at a certain cool temp or they open the buds before the flower stem has grown. So Im wondering if you bung yours straight into the house after they have a green shoot and roots and put them in a sunny window sill will they fail because it's too warm indoors, central heating etc? We dont have your winters, about 10%C , 25 %C min max , so Im growing them outdoors where it's cooler. How do you prevent them opening too soon down in the leaves your way?
@simplifygardening6 жыл бұрын
I had a fantastic display over xmas, If your having issues with the flowers coming up they are too warm
@equestanton10176 жыл бұрын
Hmmm thanks for that, yet my garden is probably about as warm as a well heated house? T-shirt during the day light sweater at night type of thing. Well done you, sure it looked good. Mine are growing flower stems this year, Im delighted to be able to say. They sat and did nothing for a week then bingo up they came, slowly but definately surely. The inflorescences are nice and thick too. When I bought them they all already had a big fat bud nestled between shortish dark green leaves. Maybe the advanced ones do better. I bought a whole lot more today, delft blue hoping they mix well with the white. Also daffodils, they already had flower stalks and buds. Thanks to the Netherlands and China who export these to Asia for Chinese new Year, it's the only way I get them to "grow". With the cooler weather they last a good few weeks. Thanks for the tip, end of Jan into Feb is our coldest month so I don't have much choice, garden wise at least. Ps those grapes are divine, here they sell (bloom intact) in the supermarket for hundreds of dollars per little bunch!@@simplifygardening

And wash your clothes right away and shower because that dust gets everywhere! 😫 Also don’t get your face close the bag/bulbs.... 😳
