Planting Japanese Andromeda, Holly, Laurel and a Red Pine | Our Japanese Garden Escape

This week we are getting the first plants of our recent plant haul into the ground. We are planting Japanese andromeda, Japanese hollies, Portuguese laurel and a Japanese red pine. We provide information about each plant, tips and tricks about how to plant them and we also discuss some design considerations for our garden.

I just planted 8 of these. Small plants...but Im fine with it. They are beautiful...love the new red growth! How fast do they grow??

If they like the growing conditions I would say they grow at a medium rate, maybe 4-8 inches a year. Over time, they will grow into medium sized shrubs.

Just came across your channel whilst looking at Bamboo videos :) Really enjoying looking back at the older videos and seeing how everything has changed over the last year or so. I’m guessing your soil is pretty acidic - looking at your selection of plants or are you having to constantly amend it to suit each plant/area?

Thank you so much and welcome to the channel! Yes, we have a natural soil pH of around 5, which is perfect for most plants we grow and we do not have to amend the soil for each plant. I just use Rhododendron soil for certain plants like azaleas etc when planting.
