Hi, lot's of good info here, can you share the onion varieties you planted and why you chose them?

Hello! I'm growing a red globe onion from Ontario seed co. Sweet spanish onion feom OSC - can weigh up to 2lb, firm onion with sweet taste. Ailsa craig from Braker creek - can reach 5lb! These don't store well, so only a few.

Thanks for a great video!!! So can you plant onion seedlings, even though we still get cold nights? It got to -5 last night. I've had them in my greenhouse for the past week. I take them out during the day to harden off. I'd hate to plant them and we'd get a hard freeze, in case it would damage them.

Hello! Thank you ❤️ -5 in my opinion, is too cold. Onion starts can handle a light frost of up to -2. Rule of thumb is 2-3 weeks before your last frost. Mine is May 7th. What is your last frost?

@GardeningintheNorth according to the almanac, our last frost date is June 1st. So I'll wait until mid-May to plant them out. Temperatures have been milder this year, but I won't risk it!!

YES! Wait another 3 weeks at least!

Is that Celsius or Fahrenheit?? I tried seeds my first year of gardening last year and they were a complete failure so I am going to try onion sets this time. I’m in Alaska and our last frost day is beginning of June, but am I understanding that I can plant the onion sets a little before that?

Hello! That is Celsius. My rule of thumb here is 2-3 weeks before our last frost date. Happy Gardening 😊

Hello!! I will be using a 10-10-10 fertilizer around the plants once they start to grow. 4-6 inches away from the plant. Have you planned out your garden?
