Great video, thank you! I’m very new to hydroponic growing and so I didn’t catch how you treat the water for soaking the rock wool? Do you need to make it a bit acidic, say from 5.5-6.5? If so, what did you use? Thanks again,
@pandarush.

I am new to rockwool, therefore I've been watching dozens and dozens of videos. You're the only person that said not to saturate the Rockwool & seed because the seed can drown. Now I see why none of my seeds ever germinated. Thank you!

It's a much better idea to grow from cuttings you know are all good from the same mother plant. Then all the plants will grow at exactly the same rate and shape as they are clones.

Thank You for this vid...I suggest a couple things , I got from your vid 1 I will use cotton fiber insulation , I am allergic to fiberglass products 2 I will make a draining tray to fit over the solution for the water mixtures , rather than drain excess into sink drain 3 I will as I watched the abilities of your rockwool cubes.. I will not need the thickness so I will cut my cotton fiber insulation into 1/2 inch depths to start and then soak n drain more of my insulation with your water mix solution and then use pebbles and fiber to hold future growths upright and sturdy :) So many allergies here... and now from your Excellent demo vid , I can visualize for my needs. Thank You Again , now I have a plans too :) Sincerely, Old Sister Boggs :)

BogwalkerExpress good stuff couple things rockwool is not fiberglass or ( spun plastic) its actually rock thats heated to 2500 degrees and spun like candy floss so it should not affect your allergies. and the rock wool is a substrate to support the roots and stem mostly. so 1/2 inch you may have issues with the plants falling over has it gets top heavy? just a couple thing to consider. good luck with your grow :)

Grow a mother plant and root the clones in the rockwool. (Also you can use jiffy pellets to start seeds and transfer them into the rockwool cubes with no problem. Growing crops from seed is a bad idea and will result in a non uniform crop, uneven canopy, different finishing times and feeding schedules. Always grow from proven clones. (Like Professionals do.)

@TheGrowGeek
@TheGrowGeek 10 жыл бұрын
Keep adding a little water to the bottom as needed, not too much as the wool will suck up everything you give it and that will drowned your plants.when you see the "tap roots" start coming out of the bottom of the wool, then its time to transfer to the the pots and giving them nutrients. don't forget to subscribe as I am filming more about "From seed to plate" this month. which will give you more insight in to the life cycle.

I had the same question - so I looked it up. Hope this information helps you out. Here's what I found... Vermiculite added to the garden or vermiculite in potting soil increases water and nutrient retention and aerates the soil, resulting in healthier, more robust plants. ... Use vermiculite alone or mixed with soil or peat for seed germination. This will allow seeds to germinate more rapidly.

TheGrowGeek got that right. You can do everything perfectly outdoors; nature conspires against you and wipes out your efforts in a day or night. sudden hail storm, frost, bugs, animals, etc. airborne blight from contaminated nursery stock..... I grew plants from seed starting in the winter. planted in spring. the big box stores sold plants from a southern nursery that did not decontaminate their planting material and a blight took hold. It was shipped north, and the orange/blue box stores sold the blight infected plants, which when mature spread their disease airborne and wiped out my plant harvest too. Not a good year.......

Some people use soil or potting compost to start then wash off the roots and transplant hen to the hydroton, but this is very stressful on the seedlings and you can get some plant loss, the property of rockwool you need it its soft so roots can grown through it , it retains water and air(important so not to drowned the seedlings) and its cheap. I get mine from amazon very cheap : click here: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087SJ3U0/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=211189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=B0087SJ3U0&link_code=as3&tag=thgrge05-20
