Seed Viability Tests Were A Success....Now what? You have a bunch of pre-sprouted seeds. If they are carrots, beets, or even spinach and lettuce, you can probably safely compost them. But what if they were larger seeds...or more expensive varieties of crops?

This is a great video, and a great addition to the last one. I almost tried this method to start my tomatoes this year, but it's a new variety I've never had before so I did it the old fashioned way. (New seeds, germination a little too good) I usually try to plant my sprouted seedlings before they grow their cotyledons, with the sprouted part facing down and the seed hull at the top. I'll let the seed emerge on its own, and there isn't really any noticeable shock (probably because it's all under the soil haha) I don't really lose plants this way, and it also weeds out the slow emerging seeds that may lag behind throughout the season if you only select the strongest plants.

That really is the best time to move them to soil...much easier to work with! 🙂

i do not like paper towels for germinating. Coffee filters work much better. The roots do not grow into paper filters like they can with paper towels
