I have found planting around my chicken pens Kale and Mustard greens has been a blessing. I don't free range because they would destroy my smaller plants, they just have multiple permanent pens. I have also found planting near the chicken fence keeps the bugs in check. Peace, love your works

You should eat that too if you can isolate millet its better food then most other grains we got for ourselves😂. Depends on the millets genetic memory/ heritage too though. Ie; if genetically stable it is a better food source for everyone's body ducks chicken goats, people. There are so many veriaties to

Please please please get a garden tractor for your small gardens!!! I want to see an old Cub Cadet on your homestead in a bad way, and I think a small machine with a sleeve hitch would really take your homestead to the next level. Plow snow in the winter, prep beds, pull wagons, cultivate, carry feed, pull the seed spreader (use it double duty in the winter for salt), drag that piece of fence around, and a whole lot of other jobs. I bought a Cub Cadet 106 for $50, and it took precisely $14 and around 4 hours to get it running and driving. 1960-1980 ish Cub Cadet, Wheel Horse, Bolens, Case, Ingersoll, Power King, MTD, Jacobsen, and a few others made some REALLY handy little garden tractors that can be had for peanuts, especially for the mechanically inclined. You could probably even trade a pig or goat for one. Most every common accessory for these machines are found in the $100-150 range, and oftentimes you can find a package deal with a tractor. Praying that one finds a home on your farm some day soon.

Millett...high carb, easy grow, minimal water requirement...Hmmm Clever choice. Do the horses you have come with harnesses? If they are broke to harness you could use the horses to till, plough, spread and cover the crops in the "pumpkin patch". Donkeys are also useful in this context and can double as protection from predators for free range chickens.

Your wheat thresh it in a 2 wide by however long stock tank with a weed eater and winnow it with a leaf blower on low when you get a nice pile of berries just rake them off to the other side and carry on scoop them out as necessary. It's the easiest way I've seen it done without a dedicated machine is probably possible to tear through 50+ bushels a day or more doing it this way provided it's ready and you have it stacked nice and whatnot.

Is this the same kind of millet that is sold in pet stores for pet birds? If so, you may be able to market some to bird owners. Millet is very expensive to buy in pet stores! Just a few heads is something like $5.00-$6.00 in my area.

Prayers for your recovery. I am home for the month of August nursing an old back injury from a bad fall from a horse. We have to keep going, doing the things we love. I'm still chasing my farm passions, minus the horses. Your place is taking shape nicely!

I have no experience with this, I'm just thinking out loud, so tell me what you think if you are reading this post. What if you broadcast the seed and then till it on the most shallow setting? The tiller would sink most of the seed under dirt, right?
