Billy Ray got it all wrong when he grew a mullet, I meant for him to grow millet, otherwise known as wild game food!

Ha! I can always count on your music appreciation! Yeah. Mainly for animal feed or cover crops here. Though it can be used for human consumption, too!

You can hang in the house and if your worried about it making a mess from people bumping into it while it's drying just tie a brown paper bag over them. Leave the bag loose over seed heads so they get air and tie it up with the same string. Hang it while inside the paper bag. It will still dry really well and the bag will catch the seeds. Should work just as well outside to keep the birds off and keep the seeds from falling in your high tunnel.

Millet 🤔 I think that would good for chicken feed . I think I’d grow a patch of that and other cereal grains and run animals through there to feed themselves. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

As usual I learned something new! Great video, lots to do everywhere but that high tunnel is so awesome! I wanted to tell you I have done a week of a liquid fast, 3 x a day and adding water or tea (small pre made shakes from Costco) I’m going for 3 weeks.It hasn’t bothered me at all.

Here's how I would do it: cut longer stems, tie ends like you did, place a large paper bag around seed heads and loosely tie it around the stem bundle. Hang to dry. The reason for the bag is because some seed heads, as they are drying, will 'pop' open, spraying out the seeds. So when the bag us there, the seeds fall into the bag and not all over the ground/ floor. Paper bags are porous so air can get thru them and with some plants, can actually encourage the drying process. Millet has seeds pods like Mullein and they probably contain hundreds of tiny little seeds. 👍❤

I think this is my process in the future! Thanks, Libby!

To ensure that you save the seeds, you can put the bundle in a brown paper sack. Any seeds that fall will fall into the sack and you save them. And the paper sack still allows them to dry and not mold.

I'm so glad you took my advice ! It sure looks a lot better after getting the weeds out . It just makes it a lot easier to keep up when there small . The more you do it the faster it will be to weed . One thing you might look into growing is sorghum -sudan grass . It gets really tall fast and you can get several cuttings from it . Thank you for the shout out !

Could millet be used as feed for chickens? Just thinking that could cut down on feed costs if that was the case... hmm. Also I saw someone putting empty paper feed bags down on the ground in between rows but I don't think it was inside of a high tunnel. But maybe that would work too if you had bags or cardboard lying around??? No one likes weeding......
@CopperheadRoadHomestead
@CopperheadRoadHomestead 3 жыл бұрын
I think cardboard or paper bags would work wonderfully in the high tunnel. I don’t want to do that yet, because I’m still deciding on how far out from the drip tape to plant. I think millet would work for chicken feed...I do t see why chickens wouldn’t like it!
