We are Austin & Sarah.
The two of us grew up as city kids and after we got married realized we dreamed of living a simpler and more self-sufficient life in the country. We packed our bags and bought our little piece of heaven in the beginning of 2021. This channel exists to document our journey of learning how to live a more self-sufficient life.
We have a lot to learn and we hope that you will join us on this adventure!

One way you can get more garden space is to remove boards between beds and make walkway between two beds into gardening space. Then bed is 4 x10 instead of 4x4. Many blessings everyone

6 Tomatoes in a box, you know you can grow other stuff around the outer edges and in the middle of those boxes. Utilize space till you don't need to. That is why your neighbor gave you that soil, cause it was crappy to start with, and they didn't tell you. Good neighbors ha..

I find weed barrier is my best hope. I also discovered that composted manure is very weedy. It says no weeds on the bag, but they lie. Last year I planted a new cucumber bed and they got really big and looked good, but they were bitter. This spring that same bed had grass up to my knees and a ton of weeds. Never again with the manure. I changed everything over to raised beds, so it will be much easier to weed.😊

We are hoping so! And that is exactly how we got into our weedy mess. Was given free composted manure and soil mix and it was filled with weeds! We should have started with good soil to begin with, oh well can't go back and lesson learned. Good luck with your garden this year!

At the end of growing season, cover in a thick layer of mulch, cardboard and weed fabric and when its garden season again hopefully weed pressure will be reduced due to darkness, for a long period of time. Enjoying your channel ive subscribed and binge watched all videos so far. Loving all your efforts on your journey.

Thank you for watching! We a layer of cardboard before the snow came but didn’t get around to mulching. But that’s the plan for the spring!

Really big holes in weed barrier around tomatoes. More space means more area you have to hand weed. Grand Blessings everyone

Looks like some of your transplants are a bit wilted. Let them suck up all the water they can hold before planting. "Never plant a dry plant. " Many fabulous blessings to everyone everywhere

Thanks for these tips! The big holes around the tomatoes did indeed lead to more weeds😀
