It seems that the plant I identified as Brassaiopsis in this video is actually Trevesia burckii. Thank you to the knowledgeable people at iNaturalist for your help.

Hi Rachel, what an amazing adventure and ick on the leeches 😮.
@GardeningatDouentza8 ай бұрын
An amazing place. Yeah, the leeches were a bit yuck but shouldn't put anyone off from visiting. I guess those little guys are just trying to live too 🤔 Haha. Thanks Wanda and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

I’m with you on not being in groups, they have their place but I’m a slow looker and dislike being rushed. So glad your husband was with you! Oh my Rachel, I cringed seeing your arms and legs bare, and backless sandals 😱 weren’t there mosquitos etc?! I was only a bit relieved to see the wooden walkway…The camerawork is spectacular, we clearly see everything you are talking about. And I like the narration rather than you speaking there, it allows you to focus on the area and fill in any details you might see watching the video later. I stopped to comment, I see you have slacks on now yay. ..🤗🌿 ok going to savor some more of this, I can’t wait to see more of your videos!

I love that you show the insects …I like your attitude toward the leeches, now sure I would feel the same…was the spot they were on itchy after? Thank you so very much for these travel and botany videos, I can’t wait to see them. Oh and watched all the ads to their ends, hope it helps 😊🌿🐜

@@grannyplants1764 Thank you so much for your comments on the camerawork. I did my best but was not prepared to trapse round with a tripod 😅😅 There were mosquitoes in Taman Negara (less elsewhere) so repellent is necessary. It was great to be able to walk in sandals on the boardwalk (it was about the only place on my travels that had boardwalk) but a few leeches did get me. But they get you even if you wear boots! Hubby abandoned the leech socks (I could never tolerate wearing them) when he found the leeches worming their way through regardless 😂Best to just not get het up about it as they are harmless.

@@grannyplants1764 The insects were fun. Yes, the leech bite was a bit itchy afterwards and sometimes gave a little stream of blood if you knocked off the callus by mistake. And thank you for watching all the ads. I know they are a pain.

I love that you saw macaques! They can be annoying but they're some of the cutest primates, imo.
@GardeningatDouentza8 ай бұрын
Ah yeah, I love them too. I did learn not to look the males in the eye though. They see it as a sign of aggression and will attack (this was in the park where I took the monkey footage. I didn't get that close in Taman Negara).

What a big present you gave to us....thank you very much for this interesting trip. You know if there are still new plants discovered?
@GardeningatDouentza8 ай бұрын
I am glad you like the video. It was always a dream for me to visit such places so I am very happy to have been able to. The answer to your question is, yes. The rainforest at Taman is so big and so old that there are areas where no person has ever stood. New plants are discovered here regularly enough.

Thank YOU for taking us along. That is the way to travel and best explore. I thoughourly enjoyed your adventures in the comfort of my couch 😅 I could never go with hubby on a trip like this because he is not at all interested in plants. Looking forward for more, dear Rachel ❤❤❤❤
@GardeningatDouentza8 ай бұрын
Look Fernanda, my hubby isn't into plants either. You need to work on them 😉😅 He is into foreign travel and food though so he was happy enough. Thanks for watching and have a great evening.

Looks amazing! Those leeches ! Omg I would of died! I know you are a plant channel but would love snippits of the cuisine.

It's worse thinking about leeches than experiencing them 😉 Not sure what food shots I have but I will keep that in mind. Thanks, Tina. Have a great evening.

We have a Rafflesia at the Bloedel Conservatory here in Vancouver! It’s HUGE
@GardeningatDouentza3 ай бұрын
Do you mean amorphophallus? These are occasionally grown in botanic gardens whereas the rafflesia is not. Amorphophallus isn't technically the biggest flower but it is still pretty amazing

I really , really love this video . (Second viewing ) It’s been years since I was around these parts , and nothing seems to have changed ( once we are out of cities like KL ) It’s a great country . Thank you so much for sharing your interesting trip . Can’t wait for Borneo .

It's great when people, like yourself, love the videos I love making. I adored being in nature in Malaysia. KL is okay for a bit but I don't like cities at the best of times. Wait til you see what I got up to in Borneo!
